2012年4月13日，国务院正式批准在珲春市设立“中国图们江区域（珲春）国际合作示范区”，示范区的范围约90平方公里，包括国际产业合作区、边境贸易合作区、中朝珲春经济合作区和中俄珲春经济合作区等功能区，其功能定位为：立足珲春市、依托长吉图、面向东北亚、服务大东北，建设我国面向东北亚合作与开发开放的重要平台，东北亚地区重要的综合交通运输枢纽和商贸物流中心，经济繁荣、环境优美的宜居生态型新城区，发展成为我国东北地区重要的经济增长极和图们江区域合作开发桥头堡。
国家将从财税、产业布局和投资、土地利用、境外基础设施建设、金融创新、海关监管及口岸建设、人才引进和培养、通关便利、专项资金支持等九个方面赋予特殊的支持政策，这对于探索我国扩大沿边开发开放的新路径，推动图们江区域国际合作开发具有重大的经济意义和政治意义，大图们江，也必将在发展的响潮声中，流向更为宽广的海域。
The International Cooperation Demonstration Zone in Tumen River Region of China(Hunchun)was approved by the State Council on April 13, 2012, which covers an area of 90 square km.The function zone covers a range of international industrial cooperation zone, border trade cooperation zone, Sino-DPRK Hunchun economic cooperation zone and Sino-Ruia economic cooperation zone.Its functions can be summed up as: standing on Hunchun, basing on Chang-ji-tu, facing the North-east Asia, serving the Greater North-east part of China, to build a platform for cooperating, developing and opening to the North-east Asia, to become an important commercial and logistics center in the North-east Asia, to transfer into a flourishing and beautiful eco-city area which is suitable to live in, to play a critical role in North-east part of China’s developing and the GTI’s cooperation and developing.The state gives it special policies in nine aspects from financial and taxes, industry arrangement and investment, out-border basic construction, commerce and innovation, supervision on the Customs and construction, the introduction and training of human resources an convenience in paing the Customs, grants of special use.All these have a significant economic and political meaning on our country’s new strategy on border areas’ development and improvement of the GTI.The greater Tumen River will surely sail into the boarder and further ocean in the trend of developing.
