My Favorite TED Talk in 2016 Have you ever paid attention to your skin tone? Yeah, you will say we are Asian and we have yellow skin. However, can a word “yellow” present all?

Angélica Da ——a Brazilian photographer has her own answer to these questions through her TED talk speech “the Beauty of Human Skin in every color”.She was born in a family full of colors. In her childhood, skin color never bothered her.She describes her father‟s skin color as chocolate, her grandpa‟s as somewhere between strawberry yogurt and vanilla. In a mind of a little child, these colors are just colors without other meanings. However, When her went outside, color made many troubles to her.She was seen as nanny of her cousin, maid in parties even pros-titute.She was refused to take the main elevator in upper cla buildings.Something inside her keeps revolving and struggling. So, with her previous background, her story led her to make her personal exercise as a photographer. And that is how Humanae was born.Humanae is a pursuit to highlight our true colors, rather than the untrue white, red, black or yellow aociated with race. She portrays the subjects in a white background, then choose an 11-pixel square from the nose, paint the background. Then it founded that everyone has its own unique color.More than 3000 people from all kinds of beliefs, gender identities or physical impairments, a newborn or terminally ill, they all together build Humanae. The project had a great welcome--invitations, exhibitions, physical formats and museums. It inspired people all around the world. The bravery of the speaker imprees me most.It really touches me that one can transfer all the frustration, fear and loneline to love. And the most important, this speech gives a new rational angle to think about race discrimination. It makes us rethink how we see each other. When mod-ern science is questioning the race concept, what does it mean for us to be black, white, yellow, red? Is it the eye, the nose, the mouth, the hair? Or does it have to do with our origin, nationality or bank account? And skin color just one aspect of self-identify.In the end of the speech, I final-ly understand the key tosolve the problem is not to frame others but to figure out „How would you label yourself?‟.Because only to know everyone is unique can we really understand to respect the different. That is all.Thank you.
