Course: Advanced English I

Course Description
This course, which covers a great variety of subjects selected from contemporary anthologies in different writing styles, is designed to help students acquire a fairly high degree of communicative competence.To accomplish this goal, students will receive intensive training in reading skills as well as in other basic language skills.Students will learn to develop their analysis and reference skills so that they may be able to think independently and work on their own.Course Objectives
Encourage students to accommodate themselves to self-directed learning with
the help of English-English dictionaries and acce to library and Internet resources
Activate students’ background knowledge about topics covered in the textbook Expand students’ repertoire in the areas of vocabulary, grammar and discourse
analysis
Promote students’ cro-cultural awarene and sensitivity
Review, remedy and put to use what the students have already learned in the
past
Students Will Be Able To
1.Increase their linguistic repertoire and communicative competence
2.Describe or explain in general terms the topics covered in the textbooks
3.Recognize and understand different types or styles of texts and their corresponding linguistic characteristics such as the use of certain rhetorical devices
4.Search for further information about the topics covered—both in the library and on the Internet
