Is Learning English Good or Bad? With the advancement of globalization, more and more Chinese people are learning English, which makes much influence in on one side.Thus, is learning English is good or bad has become a hot topic to discu.Some people, like CPPTT deputy, think that English language studies are “destructive” to Chinese education since schools are placing too much emphasis on English.Zhang Shuhua, the head of the Intelligence Research Committee, once said that many students with good academic performance have been blocked from universities because of poor English test scores in government news report.As the survey given by China Youth Daily showed that 80% respondents polled agreed that there is a language crisis and Chinese skills are destroying and more than half blamed the emphasis on foreign language studies.However, other people do not support the opinion that English studies are destroying Chinese skills but beneficial to our nation.They think learning any language including English is advantageous in and of itself.If the Chinese students just learn history in Chinese or in ancient Chinese language, they will only communicate with other Chinese and will remain within in China.Such doings may make them ignore the wealth of research carried out in other countries, especially in USA, which will block our nation’s academics’ healthy development and even our nations’ comprehensive improvement.As far as I am concerned, I agree with the latter’s view that learning English is good for us.Besides the benefit to academic communication with other countries, encouraging Chinese people to learn English is helpful for our nation to promote international exchange in politic, economy, culture, technology and other field and is the requirement for our nation to keep up with the trend of globalization.What’s more, learning English can open Chinese people’s mind, increasing their storage of knowledge and enrich their daily life in the situation of understanding western English culture and language, which will play an active role in promoting Chinese all-round national quality.Learning English is a distinct advantage in international competition.Hence, Chinese government should encourage more people to learn English as there are many benefits for us.
