When I come into the claroom, I’ve noticed that many of you are wearing different colors today.And I dare say that you must have some special feeling towards the color.You are wearing white, a symbol of purene.You are wearing Black, a color of darkne and mistery.So today we will have a look at the color Blue, and what is really behind it.We will start our cla with a very famous and interesting movie, which I bet that most of you might have seen it before.It is The Smurfs.I wanna ask you a question, do you know why these little blue ones are called Smurfs? Think about their appearance and the place the live, and you’ll get the answer.It is because they are remarkably small, and dwarf and they are mainly living in a mushroom, so they are called Smurfs.There is a special moon in the movie, which is quite different from the one that we usually see in the sky.And could you please tell me the color of the moon? Precisely, It is blue, So there is a famous English proverb——Once in the blue moon.And now you may gue the meaning of this proverb.Does it happen a lot in the movie? Of course, no.So it is because it seldom happens that it seems so rare and precious in our life.While translated into Chinese, this English proverb means 很少的，千载难逢的.I will give you two more examples.1)Such a chance comes once in a blue moon.这样的机会极其难得。
2)他极少回家看望他的父母。He goes home to visit his parents once in a blue moon.一、英语中的blue常用来喻指人的“情绪低落”、“心情沮丧”，如：
（1）They felt rather blue after the failure in the football match.球赛踢输了，他们感到有些沮丧。
(2)In a summer holiday, many of you may feel bored and lonely staying at home all the time, in that case you may get a holiday blue.(假期忧郁症).Here is the example.-----She is in holiday blue.I dare say that none of you will be in holiday blue, because you manage to come here and I’m sure you will have a meaningful and wonderful time here.二、blue在英语中有时也用来指“黄色的”、“下流的”意思，如”blue talk” 下流的语言，blue video 黄色录象.But I want to make this clear.My telling you this is not because I want you to use them in your daily life but I want you to know more about the native culture.So be careful, and behave yourself.三、Blue also have some positive meanings, 它又有社会地位高、出身名门的意义，如blue blood（贵族血统）.As for the meaning and the origin of this English expreion, I would like to keep it a suspense and make it as an aignment for all of you today.So next time, please bring your story of Blue Blood and I will invite some of you to stand up to share your story with us.So please be prepared.
