重庆对外建设总公司是经国家商务部、建设部批准，拥有对工程承包、对外劳务输出、进出口贸易经营权、对外援助成套项目实施企业A级，市政公用工程施工总承包壹级、房屋建筑工程施工总承包壹级、公路工程总承包贰级、港口与海岸工程专业承包贰级，装饰及装修专业承包贰级、机电安装专业承包贰级、土石方专业施工一级资质的国有企业。在国外设有苏丹有限公司、坦桑尼亚非洲公司、乌干达有限公司、约旦办事处、利比里亚办事处、利比亚办事处，在国内拥有十个工程分公司及设备公司、劳务公司、工程监理公司，分别从事国内外工程承包、进出口贸易、劳务输出、设备租赁、技术咨询服务等业务。公司注册资金16740万元人民币，总资产5亿元人民币，在国外拥有4000多万美元的机械设备及房地产等固定资产。
重庆对外建设总公司自1985年成立以来，在社会各届的支持和关注下，经过二十多年的艰苦创业，从无到有、从小到大，在风雨中默默前行，化蛹成蝶，在对外承包工程方面取得了长足的发展，先后在亚、非国家和地区承建了近60余个大、中型国际工程项目，合同金额达8亿美元，形成了讲诚信、重合同、守信誉的光荣传统。其中承建的二十多个项目以质量好、进度快受到业主、监理工程师、世界银行代表及我国驻外使馆经济商务代表处的好评。在竞争激烈的国际工程承包市场上，赢得了自己的一席之地，成为国际工程承包市场中的一支生力军。外建公司不仅驰骋于国外公路、桥梁、房屋等建筑工程领域，还利用自身实力，在国内承接了一大批建设项目，取得累累硕果。公司近几年来陆续在国内承建了近100个公路、桥梁、房屋、港口、管网、照明等各类工程项目，合同金额 二十多亿元人民币，其中多个项目被评为省市优质工程及荣获重庆巴渝杯和重庆市市政工程金杯奖。公司还在埃及、索马里、肯尼亚、坦桑尼亚、乌干达、苏丹、土尔其、斐济、尼泊尔、越南、蒙古、柬埔塞等国实施劳务合作项目，累计输出劳务人员4000多人次。
