Chua made the cover of the latest iue of Time Magazine, continuing to provoke heated discuion among Americans over her alleged Chinese parenting methods including no grades lower than A, no sleepovers, TV or computer games.蔡美儿前不久成为最新一期《时代周刊》的封面人物，此举进一步激起美国民众对其所倡导的中式教育的持续热议，她推行的教育方式包括不准有科目低于A，不准夜不归宿，不准看电视，不准玩电脑游戏。
As many in the US became furious at her “ruthle” way, asking “where is the love and respect for children,” some are wondering whether the Chinese approach creates smarter people who can take the lead in the future global marketplacea Harvard dropout.在中国学术界，许多人也在反思中国式的教育方式，似乎中式教育无法培养出像“哈佛辍学生”比尔?盖茨这样的具有创造思维的人才。
“In my opinion, compared with highly strict Chinese parenting, the Western way exerts more positive influence on children`s mental health,” said Cui Yonghua, a leading psychiatrist at Beijing Anding Hospital.北京安定医院精神病主治医师崔永华称：“我认为，与极其严厉的中式家教相比，西方教育方式对孩子心理健康会产生更多积极的影响。”
Cui pointed out that many Chinese parents now focus too much on children`s IQ development and physical health but little on their mental health.And it`s not good for parents to protect their children from every preure and discomfort.崔永华指出，现在许多中国家长过分注重孩子的智商发展以及身体健康，反而忽略了孩子的心理健康。此外，家长保护过度孩子，使他们与压力绝缘，不让他们受委屈，这也是不好的。
“Parents should believe that children are able and flexible,” he said.他说：“家长应当相信孩子的能力，他们能屈能伸。”
Recently, the tiger mother story is being discued a lot in China especially in newspapers and the internet.Today, I just finished reading [Battle Hymn of the tiger mother]-its Chinese version.Firstly, I would say this is an interesting book, the writer is also the mother;Yale Law Profeor Amy Chua.She has told the reader all the ways how her children(Sophia & Louisa)improved at music and how she trained their dogs.The book also deals with the touching story of Chua's loving sister and her battle with cancer.I did enjoy reading Battle Hymn of the Tiger Mother and recommend it for the family stories but not the meage she's trying to convey.Her meage is that there is a 'Chinese way' & an 'American way' to raise children.The 'Chinese way' imposes strict, uncompromising values and discipline and these are what makes children raised by Chinese parents succeful.The “American way' allows children more freedom and allows them to expre themselves more.She believes that the children are not pushed as hard as the 'Chinese way' and perhaps they are allowed to give up when studying or practice gets too hard.In China, for middle cla or rich families, the children's parents are trying every poible way to save their money in order to send their children oversea for further study.For ordinary families, they are try to save every penny to support their children to go to university in China.For low income families they are unable to afford their children to go to high school or university.In addition, only few families can afford piano's and good violins, most of the parents are still busy working and there is no time to help their children in their studies.I would also say that the Chinese parents also depend on their children to improve their well being and quality of life as their income/social benefits are far lower than the average American parent.Chinese teachers are the children's most trustworthy and reliable role models/mentors.Kindergarten and University fees are very expensive compared to the income of an average Chinese family.The only way to change the children's future from a poor family is by graduating from a prestigious university which increases their chance of a better job.People in the USA have no idea how average families in China raise money to send the children to university.For example, parents give up holidays, work longer hours, are economical when it comes to food, presents & social activities.Most of the parents are not very well educated so they depend and respect the teachers a lot and so the workload for teachers is very high in China.On the other hand, for those young and well educated parents in China they most likely prefer the American stylenot just simply say I'll raise my children the 'Chinese way' or 'American way'.However, we should be happy and proud of Sophia, Louisa and their mum-their hard work is rewarded by their succe.To quote Samuel Smiles;”We have, indeed, but to glance at the biographies of great men to find that the most distinguished inventors, artists, thinkers, and workers of all sorts, owe their succe, in a great measure, to their indefatigable industry and application.They were men who turned all things to gold,-even time itself.Disraeli the elder held that the secret of all succe consisted in being master of your subject, such mastery being attainable only through continuous application and study.Hence it happens that the men who have most moved the world, have not been so much men of genius, strictly so called, as men of intense mediocre abilities, untiring workers, persevering, self-reliant, and indefatigable;not so often the gifted, of naturally bright and shining qualities, as those who have applied themselves diligently to their work, in whatever line that might lie."
