Indian bride walks out of wedding when groom fails math test — An Indian bride walked out of her wedding ceremony after the groom failed to solve a simple math problem, police said Friday. The bride tested the groom on his math skills and when he got the sum wrong, she walked out.The question she asked: How much is 15 plus six? His reply: 17.The incident took place late Wednesday in Rasoolabad village near the industrial town of Kanpur in northern Uttar Pradesh state, local police officer Rakesh Kumar said Friday. The groom's family tried persuading the bride to return, but she refused. She said the groom had misled them about his education.“The groom's family kept us in the dark about his poor education,” said Mohar Singh, the bride's father.“Even a first grader can answer this.” Local police mediated between the families and both sides returned all the gifts and jewelry that had been exchanged before the wedding, Kumar said.Last month, another bride in Uttar Pradesh married a wedding guest after the original groom had a seizure and collapsed at the wedding venue. The groom's family had not revealed that the groom was epileptic. While the groom was rushed to a hospital in Rampur town, the bride asked one of the wedding guests to step in and married him. Most marriages in India are arranged by the families of the bride and groom.Except for brief meetings, the couple rarely gets to know each other before the nuptials.700 Comments

0 22 My Neighbor has almost no education to speak of.He's proud of the fact that He has never read a book in all His 76 years. When first meeting Him He told Us many things about how He could do anything and He had a opinion on almost everything.Being a nice People We went along with His opinions and believed Him.Big mistake.Almost everything He does needs to be done over and after a while You realize He's constantly re inventing the Wheel. The Young Lady is a lot smarter than She may realize and has saved Herself many years of living with a Fool.More Expand Replies(5)Reply

Robert 3 hours ago298366172 I am an Indian and have seen arranged marriages happening quite often.Typically, it is arranged by the family friends or family priests who know of a single person at a marriageable age(22-28 is most common).Pics and bio-data's are swapped and if there is initial interest, the couple and families meet. Now this is where things can go many ways.In more educated families, the boy and girl typically meet alone 3-4 times before deciding. In other families, it could be a patriarch making a decision. It depends.Advantages: Families have similar religions, caste, financial background etc. This makes it a lot easier for the couple to adjust to one another.Divorce rates are really low too.Disadvantages: Sometimes, 3-4 meetings are not enough.Sometimes, the family puts a lot of preure on the groom/bride to accept the union. My cousin had an arranged marriage. In his case, his parents really preured him to marry her after meeting just once.He buckled. However, they did meet a few times after and 20 years they are still happily married with a couple of kids. However, I do have an uncle who apparently buckled and was always resentful of his wife.So much so that their marriage was a terrible one and my aunt went into a depreion, followed by health iues which led to her untimely death. They were married for about 18 years.I have never forgiven my uncle for the way he treated his wife and today, he has not even forgiven himself. In my book, he deserves the pain.Forced marriages are rare and usually happen at either very poor segments of society, or extremely rich segments where the families are using the union more for prestige or a side busine transaction. However, with more women being educated in India today, they are starting to fight back and divorce is not as big a stigma as it once was.More Expand Replies(50)Reply
Stephen 1 hour ago11 Im sure it has some benefit if done right.I think them not meeting or making sure they is a connection of some kind is not the best. However, many of us jump into relationships when the person is clearly wrong for us and often end up years later hearing those little words from family and friend “we told you so”.It doesnt mean your family will get it right either but I can see the benefit of the decision not being solely yours.I would never want to live in that culture myself but I can at least see the argument for it.More Expand Replies(3)Reply

toyferBritney 30 minutes ago9 I had a history of doing well on tests, not the best, but above average for my education, I liked math, could spell very well, and had a good enough memory to do well enough in History.Gonna say I was “book smart”.That doesn't always correlate to having common sense, or a drive to succeed. My brother in law, who went to college, and whom I ended up working for for over a quarter of a century, couldn't spell well at all, and occasionally would ask me about a spelling. He was, however, very good in the common sense department, and was driven to be a quality minded contractor.I gue my point is that a testing in one area in no way indicates what you'll get in other areas.More Expand Replies(4)Reply
Venkata 9 minutes ago2 In India, marriage is considered an auspicious and one time occasion in our life. This is the way we practice this custom for 1000s of years.Further, marriage is not a trial and error proce. The elders in the family collect all details about the bride and the groom before the marriage.Further, the elders also make a judgement through their experience(which is mostly correct)while selecting the bride or groom. As for the love, which starts after marriage is totally different and fresh..though it takes time to understand each other, in my case it took few years, we adjust in the initial period till get a full understanding of each other. In the meantime, the couple become parents and a bonding responsibility getting created there to have better adjustment and understanding. Thus, arranged marriage is a well planned proce, once we start understanding the effects of it.Still there are few failures, but when compared to the size of the population, the failures are very very le than other type of marriages.More Expand Replies(1)
