拔河比赛
一天，兔子在丛林中散步时遇到了大象：“你好，老兄。天气不错，对吧？”大象轻蔑地看了看兔子，说：“离我远点，我可不想把时间浪费在你这种小东西身上！”兔子被这样的谈话方式震惊了，他悄悄地离开了，不明白为什么大象这样对他。
走着走着，兔子看到了海里的鲸鱼，于是他决定问问鲸鱼对大象鲁莽态度的看法。他对鲸鱼喊道：“鲸鱼，到这边来！”“你以为你是谁啊？弱不禁风的小东西还想跟我说话！”鲸鱼不耐烦地说。鲸鱼刚要转身游走，兔子想到了一个主意。于是，兔子对鲸鱼说：“你认为我很弱小？你错了！我比你强大！我能在拔河比赛中打败你！”鲸鱼打量了兔子一会儿，突然哈哈大笑。“好吧，小家伙。去找一根绳子，咱们比比看究竟谁更强壮。”
兔子找了根最结实最粗壮的藤条。然后他找到大象：“大象，今天下午你不该那么无礼地对我。我要证明给你看，我不比你差。”兔子踮着脚尖，视着大象的眼睛说：“通过拔河比赛打败你！”大象笑得差点被叶子噎着，不过，他还是想戏弄一下兔子。藤条的一头系在大象的腰部。兔子牵着藤条的另一头想丛林深处走去，边走边朝大象喊道;“听到我喊拉，你就使劲拉。”兔子拿着藤条的另一头找到了鲸鱼：“把藤条拴在你的尾巴上，我喊拉，你就用劲游。”“我现在就把绳子的另一头系在我的腰上。”兔子说完，跳进了丛林，他躲在树丛中大声喊道：“拉！”
大象开始移动，脸上带着微笑，但是不一会儿，微笑变成了惊讶，“天哪！兔子比我想象的要强壮的多！”大象越来越用劲，他脸上的表情由惊讶边皱眉。
另一边，鲸鱼也越来越使劲，但是藤条纹丝不动。“小兔子不可能不我强壮！”鲸鱼愤怒地说。
终于，藤条承受不住了，一声巨响，断裂为两段。
藤条断了之后，可怜的大象翻滚过灌木丛，一头栽进了陡峭的山谷。另一头的鲸鱼被甩进了深海，重重地撞在珊瑚礁上。
兔子什么都没说就离开了，以后也没有再提起这件事。
大象和鲸鱼非常不解，兔子这个小东西怎么能打败我万物之王呢？从此以后，他们对兔子都极为尊敬。
A Tug-of-war
One day, Rabbit was taking a walk through the jungle and ran into Elephant.”Hello,brother ,”said rabbit.“Fine day ,isn‟t it ?”
Elephant looked down at the tiny little animal ,”Go away ,Rabbit.I don‟t want to waste time on someone so small.”
Rabbit was shocked to be talked to in such a way.He left quietly and wondered why he was treated like that.As he walked along ,he saw whale in the sea and decided to ask her about Elephant‟s rudene.He yelled as loudly as he could ,”Whaaaaale！Come heeeeere！”
“Who do you think you are ? You are too small and weak to have anything to say to me.”whale said impatiently.When whale was about to leave ,Rabbit had an idea.He shouted to her again ,”Whale!You think that I am weak ,but in fact , I am stronger that you!I can beat you in a tug-of-war.”
Whale lookde at him for a moment before bursting out laughing.“Very well ,little one ,” said whale.“Go get a rope , and we will see who is stronger.”
Rabbit found the strongest and thickest vine he could.Then he went to
Elephant and said to him , “ Elephant , you shouldn‟t have treated me so rudely this afternoon.I shall prove to you that we are equals.”
Rabbit stood up as high as he could , looked Elephant right in the eyes and said , “By beatingyou in a game of tug-of-was.”
Elephant laughed so hard that he nearly choked on his leaves , but he agreed to humor the tiny animal.Elephant tied the vine around his waist.Rabbit took the other end walked into the jungle.He called back to Elephant , “Wait until I say „pull‟ , and then pull with all your might.”
Rabbit took the other end of the vine to Whale and said , “Tie this to your tail and when I say „pull‟ ,you swim with all your might.”
“ Now I will go and tie the other end to my own waist ,” said rabbit , and he hopped into the jungle.Rabbit hid in the bushes and then called out at the top of his lungs , „PULL！”
Elephant started to walk away with a smile on his face , but the smile soon turned to a look of surprise.“My goodne ,” he said to himself , “Rabbit is much stronger than I expected!”
The look of surprise soon became a frown as Elephant pulled harder and harder.Meanwhile , Whale pulled harder and harder too ,but she could not pull the vine any further.“That little Rabbit could not poibly be stronger than I am ,” she said angrily.Soon the vine could take no more strain,and with an earsplitting sound,it snapped into two pieces.When this happened , poor Elephant went sailing through the jungle and tumbled head over heels down a steep valley.Whale went sailing through the ocean and crashed into a coral reef.Rabbit left without a word and never mentioned the matter again.Elephant and whale were confused and never figured out how littlt Rabbit beat the largest of the animals.And even today ,they are very respectful to Rabbit whenever they meet.
