A Brief Introduction Of Opium combustion in Humen In 19th century it is very common to see that many Chinese did nothing but took a kind of drag everyday.The drag was called opium.People once try it ,it is very hard to quit.Opium also made great damage to people.The people who smoked this drag gradually became thinner and thinner ,they would lose their strength ,at last maybe they will die.And this problem had disturbed Chinese for many years since English people exported their opium into China.Many years later , most Chinese people’ health condition became awful.In 1836 the emperor of Qing dynasty DaoGuang decided to solve this problem.He appointed Lin zexu to destroy opium in GuangDong.Lin totally seized about 20000 boxes of opium.In June 3 he gave the order to destroy them all in Humen of GuangDong province.Opium combustion in Humen was the great triumph of Chinese.It showed Chinese people’ strong determination of struggling with opium.And Lin zexu became the Chinese national hero because of his great achievement in this movement.But this event also enraged British imperialism.Soon after that , First Opium War broke out in 1840.This war was ended with Chinese completely defeat.Since then Chinese social nature was gradually changed.
