湖北省位于中国中部、长江中游、洞庭湖以北，土地面积18万多平方公里，总人口近6000万，设12个省辖市、1个自治州、1个林区、3个省直管市、102个县（市、区）。省会为武汉市。
湖北是华夏先祖炎帝神农的诞生地，是楚文化的发祥地，是三国文化的重要发生地，是辛亥革命的首义之地。雄伟秀丽的长江三峡驰名中外；玄妙神奇的武当山古建筑群和钟祥明显陵被列为世界遗产名录；富有珍稀动植物的神农架林区被誉为“绿色宝库”。
湖北，以“千湖之省”、“鱼米之乡”闻名，是中国粮棉油主产区和最大的淡水鱼供应地；湖北，以“九省通衢”著称，航空、水运、高速公路与铁路纵横交错，交通之便利居中国中部之首；湖北，工业基础雄厚，拥有以汽车、冶金、电子信息、食品、机械、电力、化工、轻纺、建材等为支柱的门类比较齐全的现代工业体系；湖北，科教文化发达，大专院校和各类科研机构、重点实验室的数量规模均居国内第一方阵，是中国第三大教育中心和第二大智力密集区。
A Brief Introduction to Hubei Province
Hubei Province, with a population of nearly 60 million, is located in the middle reaches of the Yangtze River and to the north of the Dongting Lake.With Wuhan as the capital city, Hubei covers an area of over 180,000 square kilometers with its jurisdiction over 12 cities,1 autonomous prefecture and 102 counties(county-level cities and districts).As the birthplace of the Chinese forefather “Empire Shengnong” and the cradle of Chu Culture，Hubei was one of the important places of the Three Kingdoms Culture and the starting place of Xinhai Revolution(1911).Hubei enjoys the beauty of the magnificent Three Gorges and the reputation of“Green Treasure House” of Shennongjia Forest Region with many rare animals and plants.The mysterious and exquisite group of ancient buildings on the Wudang Mountain and the tomb of Empire Xian are listed among the world heritages.Hubei, known as “the province with a thousand lakes” and “the land of fish and rice”, is one of the major areas in China to produce rice, cotton, oil, and fish.It is also well-known as “a thoroughfare of 9 provinces” for its networks of transportation by air, water, highway and railway.With its solid industrial foundations, Hubei has a system of modern industry.Its main industries include automobile, metallurgy, electronic information, food, machinery, electricity, chemical industry, textile and construction materials, etc.Hubei is among the top group with a large number of universities, colleges, research institutes and national key laboratories, making itself the second largest dense region of intelligence and the third biggest center of education in China.
