Hong Kong Special Administrative Region.这是一首劝年轻女性及时行乐（Carpe diem)的诗,诗人在第一部分热情洋溢的赞美对方，宣告自己对对方的仰慕是如何真挚，如果拥有永恒的时间，情愿爱到天长地久、宇宙洪荒、海枯石烂；而在第二部分用but笔锋一转，告诫对方“时间的带翼飞车”在背后逼近，你的美貌、我的热情都将化为灰烬，而你冰冷的坟墓里蛆虫将享用你珍藏的贞节，用冰冷的语调，将生命的短促和第一部分永恒的爱恋形成鲜明的对比，直截了当的告诉对方，我们的生命是多么的短暂，不能奢侈的浪费时间于这种男女的追逐游戏；第三部分用now开头，诱导对方趁年华尚好应及时行乐，用充满野性、动感而挑逗的语言告诉对方要尽情享受生命的情欲，tear our pleasures with rough strife。也就是诗歌的主题“及时行乐”

Had we but world enough, and time, This coyne, lady, were no crime.如果我们有足够的时间与空间，女士，你的羞怯便并非罪恶。

（这两句是比较简单，但注意的是这里的lady的含义，考虑诗歌是17世纪，这里的lady与当时沙龙文化（salon）分不开的，女性是沙龙的中心人物，她们用知性吸引男性们互相竞争，满足自己虚荣心或被征服渴望。当然，这种男女之间的追逐游戏是古今中外共同的。而coyne除了有害羞外，还有逃避躲闪的意思）

We would sit down and think which way

Of Humber would complain.I would

Love you ten years before the Flood,And you should, if you please, refuse

Till the conversion of the Jews.我们可以坐下，慢慢思量何处漫步，我们悠长的爱情之路。你在印度恒河之堤寻得红宝石；我则在 汉伯之畔哀怨连连，我会在洪水到来之前早十年将你迷恋，而你如果乐意，可以一直拒绝，直到犹太人皈依天主。

（这里有几个点需要注意：一是提到恒河和汉伯，分别在印度和英格兰，暗指爱人拒人千里之外，为下面“在汉伯之畔哀怨”伏笔，顺便说一下有的译文把Humber翻译成“我則咕噥抱怨”，完全是错误的翻译； 二是提到印度恒河和红宝石，也是因为当时处于地理大发现时期，异国的风情也营造出浪漫的氛围； 三是flood，指的是noah的洪水，详见圣经的genesis,这里指很久很久以前；

四是说犹太人皈依天主，有人错译为“直到犹太人改信别的宗教”，这里是对其历史背景的误解，当时基督教是英国国教，精确的说，是天主教，而犹太人信奉的是犹太教。基督教、犹太教、伊斯兰教为同源的三

大宗教，都把耶路撒冷城奉为神圣之城，但彼此仇视，这里用犹太人皈依，表示的是很久以后，末日审判前的意思，联系前面的flood，营造出史诗般的长远时间的意境）

My vegetable love should grow

Vaster than empires, and more slow;

An hundred years should go to praise

Thine eyes and on thy forehead gaze;

Two hundred to adore each breast,But thirty thousand to the rest;

An age at least to every part,And the last age should show your heart.我那植物般的爱情将会生长，辽阔似所有帝国的版图，而更缓慢；我应该用一百年的时间赞美

你前额凝望的双眸；用两百年来爱慕你的双乳，三万年歌颂别的部位；每个部位花上一个世代，最后才能触及你的真心。

（这一段中，vegetable love 令我比较为难，可以理解为这种爱如同植物一样蔓延生长，覆盖世界；也可以理解植物般的爱是与动物般的爱相对，缺乏生气和动力；也有理解是vegetable是植物根茎部分，与flower和fruit及植物生殖器官相对，指这种脱离性欲的爱。但当然诗人也可能是包含了几层意思，这里且当字面直译，留给读者自己想象。

Thine eyes and on thy forehead gaze这句按我理解是指对方凝视的眼睛，而不是几个译文认为的诗人凝视对方。And the last age should show your heart.也有指对方不应躲躲藏藏，直到世界的尽头才表露真心的意思。）

For, Lady, you deserve this state, Nor would I love at lower rate.因为，女士，你值得这样的赞美，我也不会愿意减低爱你的格调。

But at my back I always hear

Time's wingèd chariot hurrying near;

And yonder all before us lie

（这一段一气呵成，简直是神鬼之作，诗人用But起头，用冷酷的时间飞逝和死亡的威力，与前一段的浓情蜜意形成鲜明的对比，劝诱对方应放下矜持，感受情欲之乐。

时间的带翼飞车是源于希腊神化Apollo的太阳之车，每跑一圈代表一天的逝去）

从你每一个毛孔涌出，就让我们趁早任意嬉戏，就让我们如同热恋中的猛禽，情愿把我们的时间一口吞下，也不让青春在细嚼慢咽中枯萎。让我们把所有精力，和所有甜蜜，团成一个圆球，让我们狂暴地撕扯我们的快感穿越所有人生的禁锢；这样，尽管我们不能让时间停滞，但我们能让生命奔跑向前。

（这一段翻译难度很大，有时只能改变其结构或者意译，个人感觉amorous birds of prey是和前面的vegetable love对应，Sun stand still 是旧约Joshua章的典故，大概是以色列人与敌人战斗时，先知Joshua向上帝祈求，让他把太阳停在天空照耀大地，以便以色列人杀绝敌人，这里指时间停止。

最后两句是和第一部分对应，尽管世俗的爱不能永恒，但却是一种奔跑狂野的生命之力。）
