Good morning, my lovely ladies and gentlemen,You know what is around us so much in our everyday lives that we may not notice it? A young man, with his iPod, has acce to music any time;a college girl camps in the dormitory, enjoying a [the] latest sitcom;a boy is in a subway, thumbs punching the buttons on his PSP, for[through] which my voice is transmitted.iPod, computer, PSP and microphone—we are living in a society of technology.I totally say yes to technology—it serves for delight, style and especially for convenience.About eight months ago, my roommates shopped for the first time on the internet, through which, as they claimed, saved a lot of time and footwork—it is convenient.But since then, they’ve become addicted to it, from the purchase of books, T-shirts, CDs, even to a set of toothbrush [es] and shaving cream.and just to brief you, for the past two years, we has[have had] so much fun in the amazing guys' talks while doing the bimonthly shopping in Trust Mart, a supermarket only 20 minutes away.But now no hang-out, no guys' talks.Why? I started my investigation by looking into myself first.Gradually, I realize[d] how much my life relies on technology, when(I find)I aume texting my mom regularly means that I do not have to go home for a whole semester;I aume when going out, with my MP3 on, I do not need a friend to chat with or listen to, and I aume as long as two people have cell phones, there is no need for us to communicate face to face.But that's sad and horrible!Progreively, I feel like I’m a Borg, like a mixture of human and machine(s)only depicted in science fiction movies.But underneath this, I see convenience and our initiative are at war.Ladies and gentlemen, while technology and convenience ease(s)our lives, it is [they are] also weakening us.On the one hand, we are enjoying the incredible convenience.With just one mouse-click, BAM, our delivery is downstairs-no need to group up and shop.On the other hand, we are so counting on convenience that we are actually losing something more precious in life-our initiative to interact with people.We are having so much fun in the type-and-click rather than a routine bonding with our friends, aren't we? We are looking so cool on the running machines that we may not think of accompanying our parents for a walk, aren't we? And we are so being OK about not receiving letters because we have emails, aren't we? I say we are losing our initiative to talk, to walk and to think, aren't we?
My dear friends, I’m not an anti-convenience activist.We make convenience and we deserve it.It is just that, with all this happening, it is time for us to consider in what aspects and amount we may rest on [from] convenience.It is time for us to consider how to reach a harmonious balance between enjoying it and keeping our communicative initiative.And it is time for us to treasure our face-to-face communication and healthy way of living with people getting closer and closer, not further.Thank you.
