SCENE 1
Thirteen months ago, John Blandford , a tall young man volunteered for military service, he had received a book from a woman he had never seen, just know her name---Hollis Meynell.A letter, which wished him courage and safety, came with the book.He discovered that many of his friends, also in the army, had received the identical book from the woman, Hollis Meynell.One day, John’s comrade Tony ran into him when he was reading the book.Tony: Hi, John, what do you think the book?
John: Oh Tony!It’s great!I can get strength from it!It gives me much energy and courage.Tony: I can’t agree more!
John: What does the writer look like? Is she a beautiful lady?
Tony: En hen, So what? She has nothing with you!John!
John: No!I think she and me will happen something one day!
Tony: Ok!John, do as you like!Best wishes!Byebye..John: Bye!Tony.John was the only person to write Ms Meynell back.Shortly after , John was departed to a destination oversea, where he would fight in the war, he received Meynell’s reply.Aboard the cargo ship that was taking him into enemy territory, he stood on the deck and read Meynell’s letter to him again and again…
SCENE 2
In the thirteen months, Meynell had faithfully written to John.When John’s letter did not arrive.She wrote anyway without decrease.Tony: John, what are you writing?
John: A letter to my lover!
Tony: Lover? Who is she? Let me have a look!
John: You know, she is the writer of the book.Tony: Are you kidding? Ha ha…
During the difficult days of war., Meynell’s letters nourished him and gave him courage.As long as he received letters from her, he felt as though he could survive.After a short time, john believe he love her and she love him.It was as if fate had brought them together.John: You love me, I love you!
Tony: How crazy you are!John!
SCENE 3
One day, after a difficult battle, john was very tired.He mied Hollis Meynell once again and he couldn’t help imaging
that what does she look like? So john write a letter to her.It is said that :“ My honey Hollis Meynell.When I stand on the battlefield, no matter how hard it is, I would make it and overcome it!Because of the strength you gave me!Without you, I will be dead!I mi you everyday and every night, so...I would like your face.Can you please do me the favors? Your `sJohn!”
However meynell declined his request.She explained her objection:” If your feeling for me have any reality, any honest basis, what I look like won’t matter.Suppose I am beautiful.I would always be bothered by the feeling that you loved me for my beauty, and that kind of love would disgust me.Suppose I'm plain.Then I'd always fear you were writing to me only because you were lonely and had no one else.Either way, I would forbid myself from loving you.When you come to New York and you see me, then you can make your decision.Remember, both of us are free to stop or to go on after that—if that's what we choose..."
Reading the letter from meynell, john gradually know the true meaning of love between them.And they appointed to meet in New York after the war.SCENE 4
After thirteen months, it’s time that they make the appointment.Seller: Flowers!Flowers!What beautiful flowers!Hi buy flowers? They are beautiful as you!
Meynell: Ok!Give me this red rose.It’s your money!
Seller: It’s your rose.How lovely it is!
Meynell: thank you.Byebye!
Seller: You are welcome!
A woman well past forty cane, her hair sporting patches of gray, she was more than fat, her thick legs shook as they moved.Meynell: Excuse me, Can you help me?
Woman: What’s wrong with you? My young lady!
Meynell: At six clock, a soldier will ask you to go out.You can tell him that I’m waiting for him in that big restaurant.This is a test!Can you give me a hand?
Woman: Ok.It’s my pleasure!
Meynell: Wear the red rose on you coat.Thank you very much!
Woman: It’s ok!
SCENE 5
Six minutes to six, said the digital clock over the information desk in grand central station, john focused his eyesight on the clock to know the exact time.One minute to six… John’s heart leaped.A young woman was coming toward him.In her fancy green suit she was like sprig time come alive.John started toward her, entirely forgetting to notice that she wasn’t wearing a rose and as he moved , a small warm smile formed on her lips.Meynell: Going my way, soldier?
John: Oh , en…
Uncontrollably, he made one step closer to her, then he saw Hollis Meynell who was standing almost directly behind the girl.John’s fingers held the book out toward the woman.John: I ‘m John Blandford.I ‘m so glad you could meet me.May I take you to dinner?
Woman: I don’t know what this all about son.John: Are you Ms meynell?
Woman: No!that young lady who just went by---begged me to wear this rose on my coat.John: What did she say to you?
Woman: She said that if you ask me to go out with you, I should tell you that she is waiting for you in that big restaurant near the highway.She said it was some kind of test.John: Thank you very much!See you!
Then the two lovers at the table watched each other, as though the whole world has nothing to do with them.Waitre: Can I help you? Both?
JohnMeynell: What do you like?
John: Coffee?
Meynell: Ok
John: Two coffee!
Waitre: Ok.Just one minute.What a perfect ending!
