My analysis of Muslim Protesters Held to A Hypocritical

Standard

This is a well-organized article in which the author succefully makes his point of view easily seen and understood by his readers. As a spokesman of an Islamic political party, Uthman Bardar(the author)is unsatisfied or even angry about the hostile treatment of political establishment and mainstream media to Islam ad Muslim, which is the easy target of criticism. He appeals to the powerful institutions both at home and abroad to get down to dreing the real iue of social tensions instead of making justification or criticism. Now, I’d like to analyze this article in terms of its content, organization and expreions. As to its content, I think the author has done a good job for he makes his standpoint quite clear to the readers, which is supported by the reasons given based on the contrast between two similar protests and objective analysis of the author. In contrast to the “Berth incident”, the author points to the thought-provoking question: “why the difference?”, which naturally leads to topic iue: the protest in Sydney. In author’s point of view, the different treatments to these two similar incidents lie in the different participants of the protest. To put it another way, the Muslim-background protesters in Sydney

provokes the criticism from the political community and media world, which have held an evident hostile attitude towards Islam and Muslim world.Several examples are numerated to serves as the evidence as well as the reason accounting for the Muslin anger targeting the USA.Moreover, though the seeming facts about the Sydney protest manifested the police provocation, the author firmly holds the idea that those protesters are innocent and should not be condemned for, objectively speaking, protest is a common means by which the public show their diatisfaction, disagreement or even anger towards a given event.Instead of criticism, focus and more attention should be put on the real underlying iue, which is the trigger of various social tensions. As to the organization of this article, I think the whole article is put in a clear order.Firstly, at the very beginning of the article, the contrast of the Berth incident and the Sydney protest is employed to set the readers thinking: why did two similar incidents received such different treatments? Then, the author gives his own explanation, objectively and persuasively, pointing to the fact that the Muslim protesters of the Sydney provoked the political community and the media world to respond in a critical way.Except for this, the author also points out the political subjugation and economic exploitation of the Muslim lands from the western world, especially the USA by

some concrete examples, hich is not to condone the violence but to shed light on the underlying trigger of social tensions. At last, the consequence of the blind treatment to Islam and Muslim is pointed out to make a warning as well as a call to treat Islamic affairs in a reasonable way.As to the expreions, we should take a closer look on the whole article. The linking word “Yet” in the sentence “The Perth incident is evidently quite similar, if not worse, than the Sydney protest as far as objective facts go, and it occurred on the very same night.Yet it has been treated very differently.” Well indicates a contrast and the following paragraph “It received nowhere near as much media coverage. It was not dubbed the “Perth riots”.Politicians did not fall over one another to condemn the violence.Federal Parliament did not see a need to raise the iue in question time and forward bipartisan condemnation.Parents and community leaders in Piara Waters were not asked to condemn the behaviour, nor did they themselves go out of their way offer to apologies or to condemn the violence.”, with each sentence taking on negative forms, implies the different treatments to Berth incident and Sydney protest. Moreover, two rhetorical questions: “Why the difference?” and “What is the realty?”, though seemingly short and concise, are indeed powerful and impreive, emphasizing sharply on what the author say in the article.Yet, there is one more sentence “Yet some still ask why Muslim anger

around the world is targeting the US?” using the question mark.Different from the two sentences mentioned above, this sentence takes on a sarcastic tone for the sentences before it.Though many more excellent examples are presented in this article, I have listed just few of them.
