A Bite of China, one of the most succeful documentaries in china, attracts both foodies and ordinary audiences from home and abroad.The reason why A Bite of China is so popular is not only because of its mouthwatering images of food, from haute cuisine to local dishes, but also the meaningful story told by the nobodies from different parts of China.It tells us the undergoing-change, heritage and development of China nowadays.The second season of A Bite of China came out on April 18th with its episode named “Footstep”.“Footstep” highlights several people.Baima, a strong man in Linzhi, Tibet, climbed up a 40-meter-high tree by hand to get the honey of the wild bees for his brother, who is going to university;Wheat man, challenging the machine harvest with their own hand in wheat reaping, is now getting harder to find a job.Although the Kudai noddle(a kind of noodle length like trouser belt)made by the new wheat is rich in fragrant wheat smell, they eat it with furrowed brows worrying whether they can find a job next year;A couple, whose life is count on the couple boat, is living a hard but happy life.Because their only daughter loves eating mud skippers, the father of this family spend more than ten year in learning how to catch the mud skippers within ten meter.As a foodie, the return of A bite of China really shocked my heart again.This time not only for the delicious food or the story of the people, but what reflects from the story.In such a documentary on Chinese cuisines, in my opinion, the director descries nobody's story in detail so as to show the society and humanistic sensibility.And that is exactly what we lack today.As I am writing here, a real story that happened to me strike me.Last summer, I worked as a tutor.I usually got up early and dined at a famous breakfast bar which is near the place I
tutored.It is a noddle shop owned by an old couple.Although this old couple work slower than the average person, no one ever blame them for this, no matter how hurry they are.What’s more, they always smile at you and greet you in a kindly voice.Obviously, customers so
appreciate their lifestyle that they would like to begin a day from here, and so am I.Once, on my way to work, I was caught in a down pour and got wet when I reached the noddle shop.The old woman brings me a cup of hot water and a tower immediately as I sat down.When I finished my breakfast, since it was still raining heavily, she even lends me her umbrella.That was the best morning I ever have.Honestly, what impreed me most is that they are willing to receive those tramps and beggars, whenever they come acro them, for free.This happened to be what many of the shop owners can’t do.This bowl of noodle might be simple, not as delicious as the other shops’, but this nice warm-hearted couple is good enough to attract the customers.A Bite of China follows the food in the ordinary story of nobody.From their story, we can touch the thought pulse in the era and understand the development and heritage of China.A Bite of China is a valuable documentary and this bite of China is worth treasuring as well as remembering.
