As we entered the 21st Century, we witneed the unprecedented development of economy and the advancement of science and technology.With strong economic basis, education has been made universal and there are an increased number of students in pursuit of higher education, which, however, inevitably bring about intense competition and preure problems among college students.According to William Ziner, a distinguished American educator, there are four kinds of college preures.Economic preure drives students to study hard to have a perfect transcript so as to well prepare for a good job in future.Along with it goes parental preure, since every student want to live up to parents’ expectations to make wonderful performances.To stand out among the multitude, every student will be urged by peer preure to study industriously and exert self-induced preure to work hard when surrounded by diligent fellows.Students are swamped with heavy work under great preure and overdraw lives to rank top in the cla.As one of the college students, I must admit that what Ziner says is true.I myself work hard to achieve high grades to pave the road towards a good future, and I work hard so as not to be left behind by peers.Every student thinks exactly the same and work harder and harder, which forms positive feedback and a vicious circle.No one has the courage to stop the circle as he cannot risk his future to liberate himself.No one has the power to stop it as everyone is closely related to each other and the vicious circle is the result of joint action.As far as I am concerned, college preure is the outcome in the background of a material society.Wealth has been attached too much importance which guides people’s value orientation towards the wrong direction.The definition of succe tends to be wealth and social status instead of more important things.To solve college preure problems, we need to figure out the fundamental cause and come up with solutions.First of all, the values of the society should change, which needs everyone’s joint efforts to improve the current situation.Everyone should reflect upon his values and lower the status of wealth as the final goal of his life.When all that we think is wealth, we will ignore the relationship with others, and we are under great anxiety and preure to
compete with adversaries instead of collaborating with friends.Only when we repel money worship and value emotional bonds with people can we reduce economic preure and peer preure to enjoy true life rather than suffer from anxiety about future.Second, the universities and colleges should reflect upon their functions.Nowadays, colleges serve the society’s needs to educate and provide vocational talents for job markets, but institutions of higher learning should actually be the place where scholars meet to communicate on academics and point out right value orientations to guide the whole society.If colleges and universities are back to their initial functions to provide a good academic atmosphere rather than converge with society to sink deep into wrong values and pursue material life, students can have le college preures to pursue academic interests in the right college context where knowledge itself has been emphasized and value system has been shaped to guide the spiritual life of modern society.Third, as individuals, we students shouldn’t only pay attention to scores.Good marks in school will not ensure a promising future.We need to pay more attention to the cultivation of our abilities in addition to grasp the knowledge in books.Besides, we need to figure out our true life goals.Only when we find out the true meaning of life can we embrace college life to explore the subjects that appeal to us and enjoy ourselves in free knowledge inquiry without undue college preure.
