Being setted in thriller and suspense , I should say though it is very attractive in plot, but it is not easy for the audience to understand the theam ,especially the open but confusing ending.But indeed , it is a very succeful movie.The most amazing thing in this movie is that it seems there are two stories being told in the same time.A soul-stirring reconnaiance or a absurd and sorrowful sprit fantasy ? Who’s the narrator ?A brave and justice detective or a insanity of murder? The narrator Teddyhimself was confused ,not le than we the audience.When all the rational analysis and the evidence is oriented himself is mad, you can still believe the memory of yourself or the “reality” evidence? We are sympathy to the miserable hero who himself can’t believe and trapped in guilty.Still there is a common thing that exit both in the “detective” and the “murder”, that is the deeply love he owned to his wife.This love made him struggle time and time in the dreams and reality.so it’s also reasonable that we can believe the brillant dective is actually mad.This, however, make me feel a flow of warm stream in the bottem of my heart.In addition , the film have a stong sence of protecting human right.As a detective ,though teedy knows the arsonists who murdered his wife was in the Shutter Island , he felt it is the duty to reveal cruel crimes using psychiatric prisoners to make science expremient which is supported by the U.S.government more important than revenge.Suffering from mental and physical , no wonder the prisoners will raise the terriable choice as a relief, “live like a monster, or die a good man ?”
When simplely regarded as a claic film.It deserve millions of audience expectation.the director was excellent in rendering atmosphere.Ten years after the second world war teddy deeloping war wounds by flashbacks to performance.The war, its precursors and the consequences for claic black film provides a dark emotional stuff.Also ,the environment of Shutter Island :cliffs, stormy sea, storm, cemeteries,tall and almost impenetrable tree etc.greatly helped in this aspect.In conclution ,this is a very thoughtful film which deserve audience to find a silent priod of time to watch it , and most important to find a good time think , about human right , about sociaty, andabout the emotion of human and about life.
