Helen Burns and Her Tolerance

Helen Burns is just a zilch in Jane Eyre.She appears only in several chapters, even after Jane grows up, she is nearly not mentioned.However, she leaves a deep impreion on me.I am much moved by Burns’ tolerance and kindne.Burns is often punished by Mi Scatcherd, but she always has no complains.She says to Jane “It is far better to endure patiently a smart which nobody feels but yourself, than to commit a hasty action whose evil consequences will extend to all connected with you”.“Yet it would be your duty to bear it, if you could not avoid it: it is weak and silly to say you can not bear what it is your fate to be required to bear;and besides, the Bible bids us return good for evil.” I think many people may agree with what Burns says，but how many people can do like this? Thousands of people read the Bible, but how many people can adhere to it? Burns is just a thirteen years old girl, but she can do it.Maybe some people will consider that Burns is too weak.They think if she can resist those unfair treat, she will not suffer so much and live a little more happily.However, I do not agree with it.In that situation, rebellions will make things worse.Only tolerance can keep her stay in Lowood.This also shows Burns’ intelligence.When Jane talks about how Mrs.Reed maltreats her and how she abominates Mrs.Reed, Burns says “Would you not be happier if you tried to forget her severity, together with the paionate emotions it excited? Life appears to me too short to be spent in nursing animosity or registering wrongs.We are, and must be, one and all, burdened with faults in this world.” Indeed, life is so short, why do we waste time to hate others? Her words are so powerful that I seem to see a brave and beautiful girl appear in front of me.In this book, Charlotte Bronte mainly uses Burns to show the rebellions of Jane.However，in some aspects, Jane is affected by Burns more or le.As is known to all, Jane hates Mrs.Reed very much.Jane ever says she will never call her aunt and never go back to visit her.While Mrs.Reed is sick and wants to see her, Jane forgives her and goes back to meet her.Burns kindne and tolerance influence Jane and make her more reasonable and lovely.Supposing if Jane always indulges in hatred, do you think she will be happy? Do you think her life will be perfect? Therefore, tolerance is the best way to solve questions.Burns always try to understand others, forgive others, and care for others.She always tries to find the beautiful things in life and treat life optimistically.Thus her life is full of sunshine.Every coin all has two sides.In that time, it may need rebellious people just like Jane, and Burns’ tolerance seems too cowardly.However, I think nowadays it just needs those people who are just like Burns.Some people in nowadays are too aggreive to make many troubles.They do not know forbearance.They always think they are right and they never examine themselves.If someone does something wrong unconsciously, they will teach them a leon.Some people tend to think the worst of others and become angry over even the smallest of matters, regardle of how their own actions are disturbing in turn.Such intolerance only leads to more conflict.Disrespecting or mistreating people not only inflicts pain upon others, but can also harm one's own conscienceand attitude.Once one strives to understand the experience

and perspective of another, one can avoid much trouble and conflict, thus making life more peaceful and just for all.We, especially us students, should learn from Burns, learn her tolerance.We live in a prosperous society.Our parents love us and prepare everything they can do for us.Hence many of us become a bad characteristic of self-centredne.They expect their friends to be everything to them and do everything for them.They then become diatisfied when their friends fail to meet all their requirements.Sometimes they find it hard to forgive their friends especially if they happened to catch them cheating on them.This is not good for us to keep our friendship.We should be grateful to what we have.We should be tolerant to people just like Burns.When the inevitable things happen we will look back on the good old time.It is a great secret to get along well with others.
