Today, I’d like to share my feelings after reading a book named The Call of the Wild, which is a well-known novel written by Jack London, a famous American realism writer of the early twentieth century.This story happens in the era when thousands of people are scrambling to leave for the Arctic Pole, with the purpose of searching for a yellow metal.Buck, a strong and powerful dog and the main character in this novel, is forced to learn to survive as an Alaskan sled dog after having been stolen from a comfortable and rich environment.Later, Buck suffers from the torture from the cruel masters, fights with other dogs in order to take up the duties of leadership, and faces starvation and exhaustion because of the long and uphill journey.Buck meets a kindhearted master named John Thornton, and shows great loyalty to him.Unfortunately John is killed by Yeehats so that Buck breaks the relationship with humans out of his great love for John and becomes a member of the wild wolves in the valley at last.The life of Buck is not easy at all, full of trials and tribulations.And he has to be faced with a lot of changes and challenges, some of which are beyond the limits of his body.But he pulls through all the difficulties and obstacles.Buck himself is a legend, for his unimaginable perseverance and his extraordinary experiences.In fact, we can learn a lot from Buck, though he’s a dog, a fictional dog.It imprees me that even a dog can adapt himself to the situations he faces by learning more new things, such as knowing the law of club and fang, and acquiring some skills to protect himself.What about a human being, the most intellectual primate in the nature.It’s a trend that our society keeps moving forward and becomes more and more competitive.No one can stop it.What we can do is to adapt ourselves to the development of the society instead of asking the society adapt itself to us.Nowadays, our society requires high-quality personnel with high capacity.So we need to arm ourselves with profeional knowledge and comprehensive capacity.But it seems that most of us are confused about the future, without the motivation to acquire skills and knowledge.And some of us even just muddle along the whole day and expect the day of graduation from the university to come as soon as poible.Just ask yourself, “Learning nothing in the university, will you later find a good job in the society?” The answer is self-evident.There is another thing that the novel inspires me a lot.During his life, Buck faces and then overcome so many difficulties that he finally turns from a dog into a wolf.It is a qualitative
change.We all want to make some improvements and even surpa ourselves in the life.But when we meet a difficult situation, we often grumble about it, grumble about our bad luck, and grumble about our destiny.Does it help? Only those with determination and bravery to handle the bad situation well can they make a qualitative change in their future life.I was born in a small and poor countryside, where I spent nearly ten years.At the beginning, my family’s situation was not good, and I could feel the hardship of being a peasant.Perhaps poverty is also a fortune.That is why I won’t be easy to complain about the unsatisfactory conditions.This book, The Call of the Wild, is really worth reading.Sometimes I think it is not bad to strive in my life like such a persistent and undaunted dog.
