The Dragon Boat Festival, often known as Duan Wu Festival, is a traditional Chinese festival held on the fifth day of the fifth month of the Chinese calendar.It usually lasts 3 days.The festival is in honor of, a poet of the Warring States Period, who threw himself into a river, because he was misunderstood by his loved country.When Qu Yuan threw himself into a river, people jumped into their boats to save him but failed.Then, hoping to keep hungry fish away from his body, the people thew rice into the water.Now it has been a tradition.During the festival,people often get together and their favourite dish is rice dumpling.And people hang a special kind of gra to sweep away bad luck and hold dragon boats races to celebrate the festival.Dragon boat is a ship which is long and thin with a dragon head on it.The Dragon Boat Festival is becoming more and more popular.It has moved beyond China to become an international holiday celebrated by people who even know little about it's origins.
