1/ What’s new with MARTYRDOM ? There’s a long time we haven’t heard any news from the band!Is there an upcoming release already planned ?

Yes, we are writing stuff for our new album, it will be released in 2010 under current plan.2/ Let’s back in time, I didn’t had the chance to listen your first MCD but I read some bad review about it.Is there very different with your late work? What can you told us about this record?

It was rather experimental. Most bad reviews pointed to the recording quality, but some people like that feeling. It is very subjective. To your question, our latest work will be different from the first one.We are trying to use more clear rhythm instead of raw BM strumming, and people will see the improvement of recording quality as well.Actually, our full-length CD in 2001 and our MCD in 2002 were both in very bad sound quality. That bad quality was from my hand because I wanted to pursue a “typical black metal sound” like those Norwegian BM masters. You may not know that the original recordings of these two works sounded quite weak because of our poor old hardware. However, they became strong and sharp because of the enhanced high frequencies done by me, which made the sound very crazy and wonderful.Although we got some bad reviews, we still think we had done the best we can at that time.3/ The split album with ULULATE and HEARTLESS “Black Metal is plague” in 2006 was a critic of Chinese government and their attitude during the SARS

expansion.Did you have any problem with Chinese authority since this release is out ?

What I should tell you is that MARTYRDOM has never been a government-

criticizing band, and the politics are not as interesting as BM to us.For human beings, SARS was the punishment from the nature for trying to play the role of god.We want to say that if humans violate the rule of nature, the punishment will come.Problems from the authorities? Definitely no.4/ So what about the situation in China about the H1N1 pandemia? What kind of information do you have?

The H1N1 here is not so serious, even better than some other countries. If you’ve read the news, you may know the H1N1 vaccine has been out, and we can have free injection of it.5/ Is there any censor for musician in China? Is it poible to talk about everything in your lyrics without having any problem?

It is underground metal, so no limitation of lyrics.Every country all over the world may have its lyrics censor system not only in China. It is a neceary way to protect the interests of young people. For us, we never meet that problem because we only un-officially release our works.By the way, can you know what a BM singer is singing if he does not tell you his lyrics?

As most of Chinese are not into religion, I think there’s no problem to use anti-religious theme, right?

It’s nothing about who are into religion or not.If you have different attitude to some religions, it’s ok to say.But pure dirty words is always meaningle.6/ Is it poible to live as musician in China without any “everyday work” ?

Yes, a lot of them have good days, free life style is another kind of everyday work for a lot of musicians.7/ I think you cannot deny the influence of EMPEROR in your music. How important is this band in your eyes ? What do you think about their last work before the split ?

Yes Emperor has a lot of influence in the split “Black Metal is plague”.I like “IX Equilibrium”, it give me a feeling of power and beauty of darkne.Their last work of “Prometheus-The Discipline of Fire & Demise” should be the most technical BM album ever, and it created an insurmountable peak of BM.8/ Do you think they decided to split at the right time?

Although I felt so sorry to see them disbanded, I still think their split was a right decision. They left their best works to fans rather than repeat and copy themselves when ran out of inspirations.9/ What kind of emotion do you wanna spread through your music? What’s the lyrical concept of the band ?

I tried to create music with feelings of power, persistence, resistance, as well as mystery, dark, cold, solitude, hopele, even be killed.10/ FU, in an interview for Heathen Harvest, you said: “I often do what I think right(under the condition that it is not harmful to others), even though it is not understood or accepted by ma public.” And “Personally I pray for peace.Regional military conflicts have negative impact on global development and will contribute to the end of this world.” This is unusual sentence for a black metal band as most of them are anti-human / anti-life and pro-war.Any comment about it? Are you humanist? What do you think about all these bands “at war with the humanity”?

It’s all about what kind of person you are and what kind of music you made. What attract me by BM are the images and feelings aociated from the music atmosphere. What I did is similar like what artists do on their work – to describe something

through painting. However, that doesn’t mean I should devote all my personal value

into the work.I’m not humanist, but peace does leave us space to write music, even though the music is about war.11/ Do you have any knowledge about when and how the metal scene start in China ? Who were the first band and what kind of music they played?

Tang Dynasty and Overload.Tang Dynasty is metal mixing with some Chinese culture element, Overload is thrash metal.12/ There’s something that sound curious for me…Chinese economy become stronger day by day and your influence grow everywhere in the world.Chinese company start to be everywhere around the world, but concerning metal music your scene is almost unknown. You have a lot of very good band, but seems your scene is le known than South East Asia scene, how come the promotion of Chinese bands aren’t better ?

If I tell you that metal music is unable to make money in China, you will probably understand the reason.CDs and shows need money. If the investors of a music

company can not get a good reward from metal music, he will not continue to support metal music. Therefore, you can find many good bands in pub gigs, but not in any stadium live show, and you can find many wonderful un-official releases on the

internet, but not in large CD shops.Life is hard for most metal bands, but fortunately, they are still alive.13/ If I’m not wrong, you studied in England as the guy from HELLWARD study in Germany also, I wonder how come so many Chinese can come to study in Europe? Government help you for study abroad or your family have to pay for everything?

Generally, people go to aboard with financial support by themselves and their families.I don’t think there are “so many” Chinese studying in Europe if population is

considered. In average 200 thousand people study outside China in every recent year, but it’s too le to the total population.Since many Europe Universities open courses internationally, it’s not strange they receive lots of student from China.14/ What’s the main difference in your opinion between life in Europe and life in China?

Population is the main difference and the origin of every other difference.China population is so large, fair resource allocation has been a big problem.Government needs tons of organizations for governance, which of course brings corruption.Corruption makes resource allocation further unfair. However, the good is, every country has problems in governance, but China is much more stable and economy is still growing.15/ Thank you for your time, the last word is for you…

Thank you.I wish you a Merry Christmas.
