Good afternoon, ladies and gentlemen,I grew up in a city famous for its teahouses.There are teahouses everywhere.People can sit down, have a cup of tea and begin chatting with each other.Going to the teahouse has become a way of life and a part of the city culture.However, this tradtional way of spending time together began to disappear when people started using cellphones and chatrooms.So when everything becomes as convenient as a move of the fingertip, people began to question whether going to the teahouse, this old way of communication, will survive [in] this modern era.Last summer vacation, some of my friends asked me out..“we still meet at the old teahouse.” One of my friends said.“why the teahouse?” I wondered.Why bother to go all the way to the teahouse in this hot summer afternoon? But later as I went there, I found out the answer.To my surprise, there were quite a few people in the teahouse-families, friends, people as young teenagers and as old as grandparents.The waiters were busy shuttling among tables, filling the teapots.People are [were] laughing and talking with each other.I sat down with my friends, and the waiter began to fill my cup.Then the delicate fragrance of the jasmine tea started to spread into the air, lightly and softly, mixing with the pleasant tune in the background.Through the whole afternoonm, I talk[ed] with my friend[s], recalling old days and telling new stories.Our conversation was warmer than the words flashing on the screen;a memory, far more enduring than the meages from the cold machines.Then we found that after such a long time, we still have so much in common, so much to share and so much that binds us together.We are [were] still best friends.Then I began to understand why people still want to go to the teahouse.Because in the teahouse, we feel the sense of closene that we have lost for a long time but

(that we have)mied so much.Although it is more convenient to communicate through telephones or computers, nothing can take the place of actually being together.Ladies and gentlemen, the technology and all the convenience(s)it has brought are drastically changing our life[lives], but they should never be permitted to replace our initiative.We use cars, not because we don’t want to walk, but because they can take us farther.While new technologies are providing us with more options of communication, they should not become obstacles, keeping us away from meeting with our friends and spending time together.I am so glad to see that people have begun to realize that.That is why our teahouses have started to rise again and why our beloved teahouses will survive [in] this modern era.Thank you very much!
