Thoughts on Reading Animal Farm
____Aaron,Yang XuanyuAnimal Farm is a famous satirical novel written by George Orwell,a well-known English author.The writer describe the cruel facts of the society by the proce which the animals fight against human for freedom but fall in dictatorial rule finally.At the same time,we can see the betray and sacrifice in the revolution,which leads us to think deeply.In the novel, there is a common farm which is called Manor Farm with various domesticated animals.One day ,Major,the cleverest pig and the oldest animal in the farm,gathers all the animals and make a speech to claim his opinion which emphasizes the freedom and equality among the animals.He appeal to other animals joining together to fight against human for freedom and it works.The animals drive away the farm owner and take control of the farm.Then,they name the farm Animal Farm and elect pigs ,the cleverest animals in the farm,to organize daily work.There are three pigs called Snowball,Napoleon and Squealer,who become the leader when animals control the farm.They proclaim The Seven Commandmentsand write them on the wall as the principle they should obey.The animals work together making the farm more and more flourishing.Because of animals’ blind worshiping to Major,they think the pigs are cleverer than themselves and listen to pigs’ orders.The pigs become
the commander.They study human’s characters first and command the technology to guide other animals to study.However,some animals are so stupid that they can’t understand it,so all they can do is to be in charge of pigs and work hard.Boxer,a strong and hard-working horse is the example of them,who make great contribution to Animal Farm but end in tragedy.In fact ,Snowball and Napoleon are the real master of the farm,however they are sworn enemy.At last,Napoleon train nine dogs to be his killer and drive away Snowball at last,becoming the only commander of the farm.Then pigs share more and more privileges and gradually they take place of the human to slave the other animals for their own enjoyments.The Seven Commandmentshas become a mere scrap of paper.Napoleon combine with other farm owner to oppre other animals.At the last part of the novel,It is vary ridiculous to say “The creatures outside looked from pig to man,and from man to pig, and from pig to man again;but already it was impoible to say which was which”.In this novel,Boxer,Clover,Benjamin and sheep are examples of different people in the society.Boxer represents the common labourers in the society.They devote themselves to the country but are betrayed by the country in the end.Clover represents the people who are unclear about what they should do and end in becoming a person plodding hard but accomplishing little of significance.Benjamin is a donkey who is cynical.These people know the short-comings in the society but they
don’t dare and wiling to say,they just bear it quietly.And the sheep,the example of those foolish people in the society,lost in blind worshiping.They have no opinions of their own but simply follow the herd.All of these are so absurd.What the Animal Farm want to show is the drawbacks in human’s society.If one own the huge power without shackles,he will gradually end in evil.During the human’s developing history,people have developed a complete moral system,we have build a sturdy law system to resist people’s behavior.However,when somebody own some privilege ,the effect of these restraint may be weakened and finally it may come down in dictatorship,which is such a catastrophe!
