This semester I have finished the book—“Little Women”.It is the first edition , published by Foreign Language Pre in 2008.Owning 439 pages in total , the book is sold at the price of 18 yuan.It is such an excellent book that I’m totally lost in it.It is a display of pieces of warm sweet pictures of family life , sing the praises of maturation of four little women , touched the hearts of countle readers.The author of the book, Louisa May Alcott , was born in Germantown, Pennsylvania on November 29 , 1832.She and her three sisters, Anna, Elizabeth, and May were educated by her father, Bronson Alcott , a philosopher and teacher , and raised on the practical Christianity of their mother , Abigail May.Like her character , Jo March , in the book , young Louisa was a tomboy.“No boy could be my friend till I had beaten him in a race.” she claimed , “and no girl if she refused to climb trees , leap fences…” At the age of 15 , troubled by the poverty that plagued her family , she vowed , “I will do something by and by.Don’t care what , teach , sew , act , write , anything to help the family;and I’ll be rich and famous and happy before I die , see if I won’t!”
Confronting the hardne of life , Louisa did any work she could find , such as teacher , seamstre , governe , servant.Her career as a writer began with poetry and short stories.In her eay , she said , “I will
make a battering-ram of my head and make my way through this rough and tumble world.” It was not until 1868 did her succe and fame came upon.Her publisher Thomas Niles asked her to write “ a book for girls ”.Consequently , the book was written according to Louisa’s memory about her childhood.Once again I return to the book.The story is set in the background of Civil War.Mr.March ,father of the four girls ：Meg , Jo , Beth , Amy , is off at war as a chaplain.And their mother , Mrs.March ,is left alone to raise four daughters.They each cherish different personalities.The eldest sister , Meg , absolutely falls in the pursuit of noble life , but take care of the family well;Jo , a tomboy with a frank but stormy temper , pines to be a writer;Beth is a traditional and meek and shy girl.Only when playing the piano does she wear her heart on her sleeve;Amy , the youngest , considered as “ little tranquility ”, is elegant but selfish.She’s quite gifted in painting.It all begins in the dead of winter , the Christmas season.Poor life makes it impoible for the girls to get beautiful presents that they have longed for.However , they all hold the belief that the happiest thing is that they have father and mother and each other.Although they can’t afford to live a beautiful life , they have already owned beautiful minds.They are always willing to help others.They build up a friendly neighbourhood with the Laurences and the poor Hummels.But life is
always filled with ups and downs , with laughters and tears lurking in turns.Meg get ashamed at the party;Jo’s writings receive no response;Beth develops scarlet fever and Amy falls into the ice pole miing the death.And father also get badly sick.Despite notes of sadne creeping into their minds , the girls are not beaten down.They determined to find jobs so as to support the family.During the hard time, they learn a lot and try to get over their shortcomings.Actually , they succeed.Now they have grown up into mature women.Still they are ready to lend a hand to others , but not jealous of luxurious life any more.They are optimistic and brave enough to pursue their own love and ideal.Going through the book , no flowery language can be found but plain words.The novel is based on the writer and her sisters’ coming of age.As a result , the story is the matter have taken place around us , close to life , just like a novelized diary of the family.With Louisa’s excellent writing skills , the plots are packed with twists and turns.Vivid detailed description also adds lots of energy to the characters which look like persons of flesh and blood with life and breath.After finishing reading , their ups and downs , warm and sweet life and pure emotion , deeply attract me.Four little women all bear beautiful minds.Poor as they are , nothing can stop their pace to help others.On catching the view of Hammels’ poor , bare , miserable room with broken windows , no fire ,but ragged bedclothes , they all show sympathy for them.They realize how lucky they are.No more complaints should they have.I’m quite touched by their maturation.We should learn it from these lovely women.Always get ready to help others and appreciate the happine gained when you help them.Encountering those setbacks , it is the strong will and optimism that elicit them to overcome those gloomy days.Maybe sometimes they are crammed with low spirits but they soon recover from it instead of falling into desperation.Four little women satisfy the need to learn to always be full of hope for the future and try to chase the dream of optimism.Keep in mind that tomorrow is another day with all things getting better.It holds true for everyone that life is not always what we want.Poibly we may get stuck in difficulties and adversity.Complaints and tears can do nothing ,only to add more depreion.What we should do is to cherish a hope for tomorrow , to be optimistic about the future.Let’s embrace life, create life, seize today, and wake up tomorrow with all fervor.Just keep our faces always towards the sunshine and the shadows will fall behind us.Life on the road is bumpy , but as long as we have a strong will and spirits of optimism , we’ll surely achieve succe.The book looking at the growth of people , try to deal with the right side of family , friendship , and love , feel the emotions of people of the same age and tell us the active attitude towards life.It is really worth your
reading.
