1,1955----Dr.king organized Montgomery’s Black churches, and most Blacks and sympathetic Whites refused to ride the Montgomery buses.Finally the bus company allowed them integrated seating.2,1957----Dr.king and other pastors of Black Baptist churches in the South formed the Southern Christian Leadership Conference(SCLC)

3,1960----Dr.king moved to Atlanta, Geogia and became the president of the SCLC,by then the leading civil rights group in America.3,1963----the SCLC and Dr.king worked against segregation in department stores,restaurants, and hotels in Alabama’s largest city,Birmingham.4,August 28th,1963----the SCLC organized the now-famous March on Washington.5,Black Voter Registration----the goal of the SCLC was to get Blacks to register as voters under the new law.Dr.king led a march in support of Black voting from Selma, Aabama to the capital Montgomery.III Recognition

1,1963----Time Magazine chose Dr.king as its Man of the year.2,1964----Dr.king received the Nobel Peace Prize

3,July 2, 1964,President Johnson signed the Civil Rights Act of 1964, congratulating Dr.king for his part in getting this law paed.4,1983----President Reagan signed the law creating Martin Luther King Day , the 3rd Monday in January.
