Sense and Sensibility
Sense and Sensibility is a novel by Jane Austen that was first published in 1811.It was the first of Austen's novels to be published, under the pseudonym “A Lady.” The novel has been adapted for film and television a number of times, most notably in Ang Lee's 1995 version.Plot introductionThe story concerns two sisters, Elinor(the older sister)and Marianne Dashwood(the younger one, but not the youngest),from the film I knew that Elinor representing “sense” and Marianne “sensibility”.Along with their mother and younger sister Margaret, they are left impoverished after the death of their father, and the family isforced to move to a country cottage, offered to them by a generous relative.Elinor forms an attachment to the gentle and courteous Edward Ferrars, unaware that he is already secretlyengaged.After their move, Marianne meets a man who measures up to her ideal: Mr.Willoughby, a new neighbor.So swept away by paion is Marianne that her behavior begins to border on the scandalous.She ignores the attentions of the faithful but older Colonel Brandon.Then Willoughby abandons her.The contrast between the sisters' characters is eventually resolved as both find love and lasting happine.At the beginning of the film, I knew their brother broke his promise, he promised to his father that he would look after his stepmother and
sisters, but he didn’t, which made me very angry.He is very obedient to his wife, while his wife is a narrow-minded, snobbish woman, and she is very mean on money, she disliked them and didn’t allow his husband to give money or house to them.Later, she knew her younger brother Edward Ferrars seemed to fall in love with Elinor, she was very angry and tried her best to stop them from being together.She really disgust me, but I know at that time, people like her is not rare at all.Even nowadays,there are some people who are very snobbish and money-minded, they behaved very humble before the power and the money, but they are very arrogant to the lower-position and the poor.This phenomenon is a commonplace.I am a very stubborn person, I do not want to be a yes-woman to them.I have my dignity and value.But I was often told to be a diplomatic person.As is known to us, it is unwise to judge a person by his or her appearance.But I tend to judge a person by appearance.When I first knew Mr Colonel Brandon liked Marianne, I was shocked, he was so old compared with her, and he was not handsome.But with the development of the plot, I changed my mind greatly.He was so kind, broad mind, generous and considerate.He really did a lot to her.His love to her really touched me.He deserved her love.I think he is handsome because his inner world is so nice.They were born to be together.From this movie, I truly know that it is unwise to judge a person by his or her appearance.As
to Willoughby, I knew he lovedMarianne, and when Marianne with him, she felt so romantic and happy just as beautiful as poems.But in order to inherit poeions he finally abandoned her.Maybe he felt regretted when he knew Marianne marriedBrandon, but it’s too late.Money cannot buy everything.Just as we said, money is not all-mighty, we should balance money with other things carefully, and do not let money ruins your colorful life.Elinor andMarianne, I think, were not very close to each other, because they did not open their heats to each other, they always kept something secret to each other.It was not until they two were frustrated by their own love that they became closer to closer to each other.This plot moved me.In life we should have a person like sister or a friend for you to rely on and share feelings with.From this movie I knew the eential theme: the neceity of finding a workable middle ground between sense and sensibility.In our life, we should brave enough to expre your love to the person you like but do with caution, what’s more do not make any mistakes that cannot cured.Only in this way can we have a brighter and more colorful life.May sense and sensibility surround me forever, and may I have this ability to balance them to lead to a happy life.This film really encouraged me and inspired me!
