A Book Report of The Adventures of Sherlock HolmesThe Adventures of Sherlock Holmes which was consisted of twelve short stories was written by Arthur Conan Doyle in 1892.Sherlock Holmes is a fictional character of the later nineteenth and early twentieth century.The story started when Holmes met Dr.John H.Watson and they became close friends.They shared rooms with each other at 221B, Baker Street, London.The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes began with the story named “The Scandal in Bohemia”,and it is about how Holmes and Dr.Watson tried their best to get a photograph and compromising letters from the opera singer, named Irene Adler.In this story,Dr.Watson pictured us a bachelor’s life in a detailed way.He described Holmes’s singular lifestyle of old books, the violin and cocaine, and his extraordinary powers of deduction and disguise as well.And then, The Engineer’s Thumb tells us a story of a hydraulic engineer cheated by a colonel who was a real one making counterfeit money.He found the something strange by chance and his thumb was chopped off.With the help of Holmes, the police found that place, but unfortunately those guys had escaped.Next,The Beryl Coronet is about a father wronged his son of stealing his jewels.But the fact was that his son was the one who protected the jewels and the real thief was his niece who was trusted most.The Red-headed League writes a person with red hair happened to get a lucky job that he could do nothing in four hours but gained 200 dollars a year.But after two months he found the league disappeared.Actually,it was a fraud.It’s about a robbery, but was seen through by Holmes.Finally, in “Silver Blaze”, Holmes and Watson had to succeed in finding the prized racehorse, Silver Blaze, whose trainer had been killed and whom the Dartmoor authorities had failed to find.After reading this book,I came to know why so many people are crazy about Holmes.It’s beyond question that Mr.Holmes,whose ability of deducing really imprees us,is so helpful and wise that attracts many people’s attention.In addition,I thought the reason why this novel is so succeful is that the cases in it are very changeful.They can always go beyond our mind.Sometimes the case gets stuck in

some troubles, and we thought the leading character will have nothing to do, but then it will get out of it.Sometimes we consider that the case will develop in the way which we imagine, but it happened in the opposite way.One of the brilliant aspects is that it is hard for us to judge who is the real bad person, what’s more funny is that the person who we gue is the bad person is the real good man who sacrifices himself for protecting something.As far as I am concerned,I admire Holmes very much.Undoubtedly,he was a cautious man, and has a strong observation.In all cases, we can find that most of them were figured out by his observation.He was also good at inferring, even through a petty thing, he can discover something immense.I think he was the greatest person in the world ,although sometimes he was a little rude, arrogant, unfriendly, even cold, and easily bored.The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes is really worth reading.Not only does the plots are so fantastic but it also offers us plenty of knowledge and experience.
