A Rose for Emily, written by William Faulkner, is a short story about the life and death of Emily Grierson.It is divided into five sections.At beginning, the whole town went to Emily’s funeral with curiosity or purposes.Section 1 describes the town's relations with Emily.At first the town's mayor told Emily she didn’t have to pay taxes because the town owed her father.Then a new mayor tried to make Emily pay taxes but she refused.Section 2 describes Emily's life shortly after her father's death.She tried to hide her father's body but failed.Section 3 says Emily was sick.Then it introduces Homer Barron, a worker who later Emily loved.The town couldn’t understand this love.A year later, Emily bought arsenic.Section 4 began with the town's guees about Emily's need for poison.The ladies forced the Baptist Minister to visit Emily and Emily’s 2 cousins came.Then Homer disappeared and later came back.It was the last time Homer was seen.This section closed with Emily's death.Section 5 returns to the funeral of Emily.The “Negro” servant opened Emily's door and vanished forever.Upon her burial, the town saw her house and found Homer's dead body.
