Three Days to See
By Helen Keller
Helen Adams Keller(1880-1968), the author of Three Days to See, is a well-know American woman writer.During nineteen months after her birth, she was just like any other child;but then she got a strange sickne which brought her silence and darkne. At last, she became completely blind and deaf, even mute.(For many years, the name Helen Keller has had a special meaning for millions of people in all parts of the world.)Helen Keller never married but was devoted to public relief work for the blind. She was a great example to physically disabled people. In her life, there is an important person called Anne Sullivan.Mi Sullivan taught Helen many things – to read and write, and even use a typewriter. But most important, she taught her how to think.(She traveled around the world helping others. She wrote many books including “My life” in 1902, “Optimism” in 1903, “The Story of the Stone Wall” in 1910, “Midstream” in 1929, and “Journal” in 1938.)
This is a book of autobiography which tells us Helen’s imagination about three days of sight. In this book, we can see how precious the sight was as for Helen Keller. She once said: “If I were granted three seeing days, I will divide the period into three parts: on the first day, I should want to see the people whose kindne and gentlene and companionship have made my life worth living. On the second day, I should arise with the dawn to see the thrilling miracle by which night is transformed into day.” So the first day she devoted to her friends, animate and inanimate. The second revealed to her the history of man and Nature. The third day, she spent in the workaday world of the present, amid the haunts of men going about the busine of life. She also gives us an admonishment: Use yours eyes as if tomorrow you would be stricken blind.Make the most of every sense;glory in all the facets of pleasure and beauty which the world reveals to you through the several means of contact which Nature provides. This short story tells us how Keller takes advantage of having the privileges to see, hear and speak.(Some people, unfortunately, are blind, deaf and mute. These unfortunate people take more time to appreciate life and they are always waiting for the miracle all their life.)People can realize the importance of the sight and sound only after they have personally experienced the dark and silence life.Darkne would make him more appreciative of sight;silence would teach him the joys of sound.Compared with Helen Keller, I think we should treasure our life, god has given us sight so we can see how beautiful this world is, how colorful the life is.I appreciate Helen Keller. Her life is a miracle, she strongly face the difficulties which can destroy one’s mind of living. Her life is tragic, but the world in her heart is full of love. Her spirit will encourage all of us, forever.
