Patriotism

Patriotism is a flag to mobilize and encourage Chinese people to struggle and a great engine to advocate our society.As we all know, Patriotism can be different in different times.So when speaking of Patriotism, we must combine it with different times.Patriotism must be related to international relationship, national political structure, ruling cla, main culture at a certain time.Unavoidably, it will be expreed by different forms in historical dimension.So our group mainly focuses on Patriotism in three times: in ancient times, in war years and in modern times.First of all, I would like to talk about the ancient Chinese patriotism.Everyone must have heard an ancient proverb；“Subjects must obey their emperor absolutely even if he orders them to die.” From this proverb, we can see that in fact, most ancient people upheld „royalism‟ instead of„patriotism‟.In ancient, many people believed that the right of Kings was divine, and the monarch was the core of the country.Why most ancient people advocated „royalism‟ ? I think the most important factor is that „royalism‟ is the extension of the sense of family.Chinese paid more attention to families, they think family life is the core of the society.Take Qu Yuan for an example, he showed his loyalty by his death, in fact, his death took no effect to his country.Of course, although ancient people thought „royalism‟ was the most vital thing and „royalism‟ was equal to

„patriotism‟, we can still find that many people showed their enthusiasm to their country.For instance, Fan Zhongyan, Lu You, Wen Tianxiang , etc.Are all the hero of their time.The proverb from Fan Zhongyan；“Be the first to feel concerned about state affairs and the last to enjoy yourself.” also demonstrates it.It seems that patriotism during the war years must be contacted to blooding.Actually, it is the truth.More than half a century ago, in that crushing calamity, confronted with the invasive war without advanced weapons, each Chinese soldier held beliefs, they know they may not have tomorrow on the battlefield, but to the country, for the sake of the family, they went ahead with no turning back.By the way, for some reasons, war facts might be presumptuous.Rarely would media speak highly of contributions that KMT(kuomintang)had made to the victory of the war.However, to our delight, in these years, society has begun to square up to facts.It is a sign that expre the progre of our society‟s freedom of opinion.We can't give the posterity an obscure and even some artificially distorted history, buta true, objective history to our descendants.Only this way can patriotism develop healthily and objectively!

In the new era of socialism, patriotism should also have a new expreion.It is no longer a narrow nationalism in the anti-Japanese war period or loyalty to the emperor in ancient times, but it does mean loving our nation, loving the great rivers and mountains of our motherland.It

should be aociated with the great rejuvenation of Chinese nation.Maybe some people have the concern that patriotism is fading away from us.But actually, it‟s not like that.Today, patriotism is not as difficult as before.It does not require you to do something to break ripper or anything that sounds earth-shattering.It‟s not confined to any action or any form.In fact,it just means doing something that has a positive significance for our country.As college students in the new era, future of our country lies in our hands.We have to adapt to the requirements of the times , a correct understanding of history and reality of the motherland.What we need to do is enhance the emotional sense of patriotism and revitalization of the motherland, and establish national self-esteem and self-confidence.These seem to be big topics and I don't want to talk that way.I just want to put my focus on those small but meaningful things.And to us college students, I want to emphasize on two points that we can do to show our patriotism.I know the two are far from enough, but they‟re within easy acce.First, as the saying goes: “self-cultivating;family-regulating;sate-ordering;then the land great governed.” and here is to cultivate ourselves, that is to say, to develop our comprehensive quality, profeional abilities, confidence, perseverance, and so on.Take this as an example;when on the bus, would you be willing to offer your seat to the old or anyone in need? Yes, it‟s a small thing but it shows the

quality you have and your small help may mean much to others.Second is the spirit of teamwork and cohesion.It plays an important role especially when the state or even the country is in trouble.For instance, when an earthquake hits somewhere, the volunteers are much needed.And no matter who you are, a student, a citizen, or any people, as long as you love the country and have the ability to do something to help, you are the one to come and do something.And you are patriotic.From above, the demonstration of patriotism changes along the time of history.Yes, nothing can be suitable all the time, so does the expreion of patriotism.What we need to do is follow the steps of time, not lag behind.When the time for you to show your patriotism comes, don‟t hesitate, just do it.
