1958年，锦江宾馆作为国庆10周年献礼工程破土动工。1960年建成之际，朱德和陈毅两位四川老帅亲自选定了“锦江”这个馆名，寓意有三：一是宾馆毗邻锦江河畔，二是成都自古即有“锦城”、“锦官城”的美誉，三则期望宾馆与新中国一样前程似锦。1964年，周恩来总理视察锦江宾馆时说：锦江宾馆这个名字很贴切，很有意思。
Decades-old history
1958 witneed the ground-breaking ceremony of Jinjiang Hotel.Marshal Zhu De and Marshal Chen Yi aigned personally the name ―Jinjiang‖ to the hotel when it was completed in 1960.The name ―Jinjiang‖ has three meanings: first, the hotel is near Jinjiang River;Second, Chengdu has been known as Jin City or Jin Guan city since ancient times;third, the character Jin in Chinese has a meaning of prosperity, it implies people’s expectation that the hotel will have a prosperous future like new China.―The name of Jinjiang Hotel is the right word, very Suggestive.‖ said late Premier Zhou Enlai when he visited the Hotel in 1964.至尊荣誉，熠熠生辉
