So it is very important for ESL/EFL teachers to bear in mind what we read in real life so that when we select reading materials for our college students, we not only have a great variety but also meet the needs of different students.

Because there are two broad levels in reading: 1)visual signals from the eyes;2)a cognitive task of interpreting the visual information, relating the received information with the reader’s own general knowledge, and reconstructing the meaning that the writer had meant to convey[2].

What does the paage tell us? What does the third paragraph tell us?What does the author want to tell us in the paage? What’s the best title for the paage? Concerning „,the author wants to tell us„?或者What does a certain word mean in a particular sentence?

1.For keeping alive in the jungle, the right equipment is ______.A.more important than a knowledge of woodcraft B.le important than a knowledge of woodcraft C.just as important as a knowledge of woodcraft D.the most important thing

2.For checking your position in the jungle, you should rely on ______.A.known marks B.a compa C.the sun

D.the moon and stars

3.In moving through the jungle, you should ______.A.set a fairly rapid pace

B.retrace your steps from time to time C.stop and rest often D.run as fast as you can

4.The author probably advises against traveling at night because _____.A.one tends to move too quickly at night B.it is difficult to check your position then C.emergencies occur most frequently at night D.unbroken stretches of jungle can be avoided 5.The best way to be sure of having enough food in the jungle is to ______.A.learn ahead of time what plants can be eaten B.travel only along streams and rivers C.watch the animals’ eating habits D.pick nuts and fruits in the jungle

(Things to Eat in the Jungle)的书籍。

In 1789 the US government paed a law which said that the land of American Indians could never be taken from them without their agreement. One hundred years later, however, the Indians had only a very small part of the land that originally belonged to them. How did this great injustice occur?

After 1812, white settlers began to move west acro North America. At first, the settlers and the Indians lived in peace. However, the number of settlers increased greatly every year, and slowly the Indians began to see the white settlers as a danger to their survival. To feed themselves, the settlers killed more and more wild animals. The Indians, who depended on these animals for food, had to struggle against starvation. The settlers also brought with them many diseases which were common in white society, but which were new for the Indians.Great numbers of Indians became sick and died.Between 1843 and 1854 the Indians population in one area of the country went down from 100,000 to 30,000.More land was needed for the increasing numbers of white settlers. In Washington, the old respect for the rights of the Indians disappeared. The old promise to the Indians was broken;the federal government began to move groups of Indians from their original homelands to other poorer parts of the country. Some Indians reacted angrily and violently to this treatment. They began to attack white settlers, and the Indian War began. For thirty years, until the late 1880s, different groups of Indians fought against the injustice of the white man. They had a few famous succees, but the result of the struggle was never in doubt. There were too many white soldiers, and they were too powerful. Many Indians were killed;the survivors were moved from their homelands to different areas of the country. It was a terrible chapter in the history of a country that promised freedom and equality to everyone.1.What is said about the land of the American Indians in the paage?

A.The land of the American Indians was taken from them without their consent.B.The American Indians had very few succees in their fight against the injustice of the

white man.C.The US law about the land of the American Indians was violated as soon as it was paed.D.The American Indians have finally regained the right of their own land

2.Why did American Indians begin to see the white as a danger to them?

A.They fought against any law protecting the right of Indians.B.The settlers killed the animals and brought new diseases.C.They took away their animals and sold them to other white people.D.They made American Indians work hard without pay.3.What does the writer mean by “the old respect for the rights of the Indians disappeared”?

A.The government had a new respect for the rights of the Indians.B.The government of the US never had any respect for the rights of the Indians.C.The white settlers began to ignore the law concerning the rights of the Indians.D.The government began to ignore the rights of the Indians.4.The US government began to move Indians off their original land. How did the Indians react?

A.They became sick and died.B.They began to fight the whites.C.They had to struggle against starvation.D.They launched a war against the whites which lasted for 100 years.5.What is the writer’s opinion about the treatment that the Indians received from the US government?

A.He believes that the government always respected the rights of the Indians.B.He believes that the government should pa law to protect the Indians.C.He believes that the government treated the Indians very unjustly.D.He believes that the government cannot be criticized for its treatment of the Indians.

Which of the following is not true? Which of the following is not included in the text? Which of the above following is not mentioned? 还有The following statements are true except…… 此外,all of
