A Report on Great Expectations I also read Great Expectations in this winter holiday.Actually, I have already read this book in last term, but I did not finish reading it, so I read it again on holiday and finished it.This book was written by Charles Dickens, one of the most famous English writers.I really like to read Charles Dickens’ books, not only because he is very famous, but he is also good at writing novels.The first time I saw the name of this book, I thought it was about a man who was full of ideal.However, after reading this book, I found out this novel is about a young man’s great change.The main character of this novel is Pip.First of all, he was satisfying with his life, and he wanted to be a blacksmith just like his brother in law.What is more, he got along well with his friends though they were very poor.Neverthele, after he met Mi Havisham and Estella, everything changed.He began to want to be rich and be a gentleman.Fortunately, he helped an escaped prisoner, and this prisoner supplied him to study in London.So, Pip began to change, he began to look down upon poor people, such as his friends and his brother in law.Since then, he lived like a gentleman, he was very rich.But, he was not as happy as before.Although he was a gentleman, Estella did not love him.Finally, he found that being a gentleman was not that good, because he lost his old friends and his mind.He was not like himself anymore.What is more, he was ashamed of being helped by a prisoner.When I read that he was ashamed of being poor and being helped by a prisoner, I thought he is a vain man, what he only cared was money.So, I hate him at that time.I do not like vain man.At the end of the novel, he lived as a normal man, he was not a gentleman any longer.In my eyes, he just because loved a rich girl, so he lost himself.Fortunately, he found himself in the end.Everyone can be Pip, and everyone can be lured by money and destroy oneself.Pip’s great expectations finally was a dream, but as if he did not feel too pain to accept the truth.As far as I am concerned, at least he had been experienced upper cla’s life.Since he became a normal man at last, and realized money is not everything, I admire him, for he did not lost himself completely, and he could found the real him.I learnt a lot from this novel, I think everyone should have great expectations, and everyone should full of ideal, we should try our best to reach the goal.But we should not forget the real one, we should not forget the past life.Money is useful, however, we should not become slaves of money.No matter where we are, what we do, we should remember the real one!
