我认为AIG作为中国的创新者之所以会成功取决于它四个核心竞争力：对于中国市场的了解；愿意试验和用新的商业模型和产品去冒险；对于开发本土雇员的能力和创造力的重视；以及我们想要同时帮助中国用户和AIC的渴望。

我们生活的时代是一个创新对于经济的发展和昌盛是至关重要的时代。用老方法做生意的确很舒服，但是创新是困难的因为它通常意味着改变。创新需要新想法，新流程和新组织。新的科技和方法可以激进地改变一个现有的市场，创造出新客户和竞争对手。但是优秀的领导力，长期的战略以及优秀的人才可以管理住创新以及其所携带的颠覆。胡锦涛主席在今年年初说过：“创新是国家的核心竞争力。”

少女同样不被鼓励成长成成年人。年龄增大是一个巨大的禁忌。虽然男孩子们被允许且鼓励成长为成熟的成年人，女孩子们被鼓励继续做小女孩，保持被动和依赖，永不长大。莫名地被放在了这个进退两难之境，她们既要性感又要冰清玉洁，富有经验而又要天真烂漫，充满诱惑又要纯情。

大学的角色必须是新知识的创造者和探索的鼓励着。我们必须确保能够将学术探索得到的好处转移到学府的墙外，让他们对社会发展做出贡献。提供高等教育的学府已经存在超过了800年，但是研究机构可能只存在了一半的时间。即便如此，我们所做的研究已经进化并且获得了比我们教学任务要大得多的改变。显然，这个改变很可能会继续下去。

我已经讲过大学创造和传递知识的角色。你或许会问我对于大学的梦想和预测是怎样的。我大部分的职业生涯都是在斯坦福渡过，并且去了好几次硅谷，但是我总是会回到大学里来。我回来，是因为我有跟斯坦福第一届校长David Starr Jordon相同的观点：他对于研究和教学的整合是真心相信的，以及相信学生从积极参与并投入到新知识和研究的学者那里学习知识是至关重要的。
