一、用不定式表示结果
1.(only)to do sth
We came home to find our garden neat and tidy.我们回到家里发现花园整整齐齐。
He hurried to the house only to find that it was empty.他急忙赶到那所房子，却发现空无一人。
He survived the crash only to die in the desert.飞机坠毁时他幸免于难，后来却死在沙漠里。
说明：带有副词修饰语 only 的不定式通常表示一种出乎意料的结果，见上例。
2.enough to do sth
The patient is well enough to sit up in bed now.病人现在已能在床上坐起来了。
He’s big enough to go out without his parents.他已长大，不用父母陪着出门了。
3.too …to do sth
It is too soon for me to say whether the scheme will succeed or not.现在要我来说计划能否成功还为时过早。
As a conductor he is too experienced to mind what the critics say.他是一位经验非常丰富的指挥家，根本不会在乎评论家的意见。注意，如果too之后的形容词是anxious, glad, good, pleased, ready, thankful, true, willing等，则其后的动词不定式修饰的是这些形容词，而不是修饰too，所以表肯定的意思。此时的too前面通常会有only, just等修饰。如：
I’m only too glad to stay at home.我太想留在家里啦。(too修饰glad to stay at home)
I’m just too anxious to help you.我正是想帮助你哩。(too修饰anxious to help you)
You are too ready to find faults in other people.你就爱找别人的岔儿。(too 修饰ready to find...people)
4.so...as to do sth
I’m not so simple as to think it will be easy.我决不至于笨得以为那是容易的事。
The house is so high and narrow as to resemble a tower.这房子又高又窄，像一座塔。
5.such...as to do sth
He spoke in such a manner as to offend them.他用这种方式讲话，以致冒犯了他们。
It was such aloud noise as to wake everybody in the house.声音这么大，房子里的每个人都给吵醒了。
二、用现在分词表示结果
用现在分词表结果，常置于句末。如：
The phone rang, interrupting the flow of his thoughts.电话响了，打断了他的思绪。
The child fell, striking his head against the door and cutting it.那孩子跌倒了，头碰在门上磕破了。
Both machines crashed near Hatfield, killing their crews.两架飞机在哈特菲尔德相撞，结果机组人员全部丧生。
She was so angry that she threw her new doll on the floor breaking it into pieces.她大怒，把她新买的娃娃扔在地上，摔得粉碎。
三、用过去分词表示结果
用过去分词表结果，也通常是置于句末，但这种用法比较少见。如：
It rained and rained, vehicles bogged and bridges washed out.雨不停地下，车辆陷入泥沼，桥梁被水冲垮。
四、由并列连词表示结果
1.and
He fell heavily and broke his arm.他摔得很重，手臂都摔断了。
Arrive late once more and you’re fired.你再迟到一次，你就会被开除。
2.so
The door was locked, so we couldn’t get in.门上锁了，所以我们进不去。
It was dark, so I couldn’t see what was happening.天很黑，所以我看不见发生了什么事。
五、由从属连词表示结果
1.so that
He studied hard so that he paed the exam.他学习用功，所以考试通过了。
I went to the lecture early so that I got a good seat.我去听演讲去得很早，所以找了个好座位。
2.so…that
He was so angry that he couldn’t speak.他气得话都说不出来。
I am so busy that I have no time to write a letter.我很忙，连写信的时间都没有。
3.such…that
He shut the window with such force that the gla broke.他关窗户用力很大，结果玻璃震破了。
She spoke with such sincerity that he felt greatly touched.她说得那样诚恳，他深受感动。
六、由介词短语表示结果
1.without…
Poibly this person died without anyone knowing where the coins were hidden.可能这个人去世后就没有人知道这批硬币藏在什么地方了。
2.as a result
As a result he had to leave his country.结果他只好离开自己的国家。
Penrose gambled heavily and, as a result, lost a lot of money.彭罗斯赌得很厉害，结果输了很多钱。
七、用副词表示结果
1.therefore
It rained;therefore the game was called off.由于下雨，因而那场球赛取消了。
Therefore, we must advocate the forming of workshop committees.因此我们倡导组织车间委员会。
2.thus
He studied hard, thus he got high marks.他学习努力，因此得了高分()。
He sold his farm and thus he had enough money for his journey.他卖掉了农场，这样他就有足够的钱旅行了。

some places we can't see fish swimming in the river or trees on the hills.Some people even have no clean water to drink.So I think we must do something to protect the environment.But what can we do?
