Since May 12th Wenchuan Earthquake in 2008 in China, the world has suffered many great earthquake, especially the Northeastern Japan Earthquake.The earthquake has caused the big tsunami leading to nuclear leakage.Now, the situation is becoming serious.Thus, WHO believes that international cooperation is neceary.In response to the nuclear accident in Japan, Japanese authorities have instituted monitoring of food products and have restricted the consumption [kən'sʌmpʃən](消费)and distribution of some products in certain prefectures(日本的县), or areas found to contain radionuclides['redɪo'nju,klaɪd](核辐射)exceeding(超过的)Japan's provisional[prə'viʒənəl](暂时的)regulation value.Many countries have implemented(采取)food control measures to mirror actions taken within Japan.Some countries have indicated they now require documentation verifying(验证)the safety of products and/or the prefecture of origin of the food.Other countries have suspended food imports from Japan.In addition, many countries have increased monitoring(监测)on foods imported from Japan.(Taken from WHO`s Official Website.)
In accordance(赋予)with its Constitution(《组织法》)and the International Health Regulations(《国际卫生条例》), WHO is mandated[mæn'detɪd] to ae(评估)public health risks and provide technical consultation [,kɑnsəl'teʃən](咨询)and aistance in aociation[ə,sosɪ'eʃən](联盟)with public health events, including those aociated with radiation(辐射)events.In doing so, WHO is working with independent experts and other UN agencies.WHO's work is supported by a global network comprising more than 40 specialized['spɛʃəl,aɪzd](专门的)institutions in radiation emergency medicine.The network, the Radiation Emergency Medical Preparednes [prɪ'pɛrɪdnɪs](准备)and Aistance Network(REMPAN), provides technical aistance for radiation emergency preparedne and response.(Taken from Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare Website.)
