Why we choose Slytherin

Good morning, everyone. It is my honor to give this speech.Today my topic is “Why we choose Slytherin”.In the book series Harry Potter, there are four houses in Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and wizardry—Gryffindor, Hufflepuff, Ravenclaw, and Slytherin.Among them Slytherin is considered to be the camp of negative characters.Students in Slytherin are always the representation of cattine, arrogation, and evilne. They show contempt of the Muggles—those who stay ignorant of witchcraft and wizardry, also they often tease at the wizard or witches who come from a Muggle family. As a result, they are considered to be conceited. What is worse, many students in Slytherin have relationships with the Dark Lord, and many Slytherins are Death Eaters—servants of the Lord Voldemort. So in many readers’ eyes, Slytherin is just the acceory of Lord Voldemort. However, on those most popular BBSes, the number of fans of Slytherin is considerable. And as for me, I am a fan of Slytherin. It even seems that there are more fans of Slytherin than that of Gryffindor, which is considered to be the symbol of courage, bravery, loyalty, nerve and chivalry, and also the House of Harry Potter, the hero of the novels. So why we choose Slytherin even we are Muggles?

The first reason, and the direct reason is that Tom Felton is really a handsome boy—a handsome man, now.He played the part of Draco Malfoy, the most important student in Slytherin that of Harry’s age.His blond hair, sapphire eyes, and slender figure drove girls crazy.Especially in the last three or four movies, he became the most handsome one among the young wizards. So many fans, especially girls, turn their eyes to Slytherin. The second reason, also the ultimate reason is the value of Slytherin.Slytherin house values ambition, cunning, leadership, and resourcefulne.Slytherin strees noblene. That’s why its students are most pure-blood.It claims that its student should be smart and ambitious. They are silent and sensible, draw on advantages and avoid disadvantages.Comparing with Gryffindors, Slytherins are more deliberate. And comparing with Ravenclaws—who value intelligence, creativity, learning, and wit, Slytherins are more active and ambitious.Slytherins are just like those che players, who are intelligent always in deep consideration, and willing to win.So when we just imagine the greenish glow in the common room of Slytherin, imagine the silhouette of those sapiential wizards and witches, we feel excited and paionate. The sorting hat is singing:” Or perhaps in Slytherin/You’ll make your real friends/Those cunning folk use any means.” And in the 4th book, he sung:” Shrewd Slytherin, from fin/They shared a wish, a hope, a dream/They hatched a daring plan, to educate young sorcerers.”These comments show the true significance of Slytherin.Although the Slytherins are molded as bad guys or foolish guys most of time in the books, we still believe in the original values of the House: ambition, cunning, shrewdne, leadership and resourcefulne. They are regarded as the very eence of the Slytherin House. That’s why we choose Slytherin. The house mascot of Slytherin is the serpent, and the house colours are green and silver.Salazar Slytherin founded the house. The Head of House is Severus Snape until near the end of the sixth book. Then, Horace Slughorn, the previous Head of House, comes out of retirement re-auming authority. The ghost of Slytherin house is The Bloody Baron. The Slytherin dormitories and common room are reached through a bare stone wall in the dungeons. The Slytherin common room is a long, low, dungeon-style room, located under the Hogwarts Lake, furnished with green lamps and carved armchairs. The room is described in the second book as having a greenish glow. The Sorting Hat claims that blood purity is a factor in selecting Slytherins, although this is not mentioned until the fifth book. There is no reason to believe, however, that Muggle-born students are not sorted there, merely that pure-blooded students are more desirable to that house, as there are several examples of half-bloods in the house(such as Snape and Voldemort). In Deathly Hallows, a group of Snatchers claim that “not many Mudbloods” are sorted into Slytherin. When believing Harry to be dead and thinking that he has final victory in his grasp, Voldemort proclaims his intention to abolish the other three houses and force all Hogwarts students into Slytherin. This design is foiled by his defeat and death, after which Slytherin becomes more diluted in its blood purity, no longer remaining the pure-blood bastion it once was.Its dark reputation, however, does linger.
