Good morning,Ladies and Gentleman,welcome to Shanxi.My name is XXX.I’m honored to be you guide.Now we have arrived at Pingyao Ancient City , one of china’s most famous historic cities.Pingyao has a long history.It is written that Pingyao Ancient City was built in the Zhou Dynasty.Now the structure we see was expanded in the Ming Dynasty.Today We are going to visit Weng City at first.It was built for protecting the city gate.The Weng City looks like a big urn mostly and is semi-circular.So the name also contained the meaning that,If the enemy attacked the Weng City, we would practice “to catch the turtle in an urn”.When we climb up the city wall, we will enjoy the gate tower, a tall and grand building.The founction of the gate tower was mainly for the commander to ascend the height to watch the enemy and command the battle.Today the gate tower has become the best scenic spot for the tourists to overlook the scenery of the ancient city.From here, we can see many constructures.Let’s have a key look at the arrangement of the streets in the city.The streets of the ancient city are basically kept in the style of Ming and Qing Dynasties and their overall layout is designed in limitating the style of supernatural turtle.The whole city takes the east,west,south and north large streets as main lines and has 8 small streets and 72 centipede-like lanes intersecting them in a cricro pattern,to constitute the setup similar to the Eight Diagrams pattern on the tortoise-shell,which differentiates the primary from the secondary and appears in perfect order.Now we have arrived at the former site of Rishengchang,the chinese exchange shop museum.It was founded in the Qing Dynasty.At that time,many merchants of Shanxi opened various kings of shops in Beijing.At each year end,they all wanted to send some silver to their homes,but it’s very inconvenient.Therefore Li Daquan formed Rishengchang Exchange Shop.Exchange Shop was the first and earliest bank and Rishengchang was worthy of the chinese banking founder.South Street is a commercial street where the buildings of Ming and Qing Dynasties are preserved mostly.City buinding here is the tallest building in the city.Ok,that’s all for my explaination of the Pingyao Ancient City ,you can visit it freely now.
