亚洲青年运动会（英文：Asian Youth Games）是亚奥理事会下设的其中一个综合运动会，现时每隔四年举行一届。亚洲奥林匹克理事会，简称“亚奥理事会”，成立于1981年11月26日，其前身为1949年2月13日在新德里成立的亚洲运动会联合会。总部设在科威特。它是全面管理亚洲奥林匹克运动的唯一的组织。亚奥理事会体系下共设5个综合性运动会，分别是亚运会、亚洲冬季运动会、亚洲室内武术运动会、亚洲沙滩运动会，亚洲青年运动会。

2008年4月3日，在泰国曼谷举行的亚奥理事会第52次执行委员会会议，通过了举办以青少年为主体的综合性运动会的决议，亚洲青年运动会由此成为在亚奥理事会下设立的第五个综合运动会，每隔四年举行一届。亚奥理事会是根据国际奥委会作出举办青奥会的决定，设立了亚洲青年运动会，旨在加强亚洲各国和地区之间青少年的交流与沟通，在亚洲青少年中传播奥林匹克精神，鼓励他们更积极地参加体育和文化教育活动，养成健康的生活方式。这个综合性运动会每隔四年举行一届，2008年，亚奥理事会决定将2009年第一届亚青会的主办权交给新加坡

2009年6月29日至7月7日，第一届亚青会在新加坡顺利举行。第一届新加坡亚青会设9个大项、90个小项的比赛，参赛运动员年龄在14—17岁之间，赛期9天，来自亚洲45个国家和地区的奥委会的3000名运动员和官员参加了此次盛会。新加坡亚青会的经费投入主要通过政府支持，亚奥理事会基本没有资金补助。

2010年11月14日，第29届亚奥理事会代表大会在广州花园酒店召开，亚奥理事会主席艾哈迈德·法赫德·萨巴赫亲王、国际奥委会主席罗格以及亚奥理事会执委会全体成员出席大会。本次大会通过了由中国江苏省南京市举办2013年第二届亚洲青年运动会的决议。亚奥理事会主席艾哈迈德、国家体育总局局长刘鹏、南京市市长季建业在会议现场共同签署了主办亚青会的授权书。为进一步支持推广青奥会、开展亚洲青少年运动，此次将第二届亚青会的主办权授予南京，亚奥理事会也是希望第二届亚青会能够成为2014年南京青奥会的一次试运转。第二届亚青会定于2013年8月16日―24日举行，赛期8天，8月16日举行开幕式，24日举行闭幕式。运动员村将设在南京工业大学江浦校区。会徽口号

作为2013年南京亚青会的主要组成元素，会徽、口号对塑造品牌形象、营造城市氛围具有重要意义。南京亚青组委历时半年多，通过向国内知名青年设计团队和青奥会会徽设计大赛优胜作者定向征集、专业优化设计、专家多轮评审、组委会内部多次专题审议，最终形成南京亚青会会徽备选方案报国家体育总局和亚奥理事会审批。

亚青会会徽整体呈现太阳照耀下的“宁”字造型。会徽方案名为“山水城林”，将远山、流水、城墙、树叶四种象征着南京“山水城林”城市特色的元素，以书法笔触演变融合成为运动人物造型，最终构成了“宁”字造型。同时，亚青组委发布了第二届亚青会口号：“青春盛会 活力亚洲”（Youthful Celebration,Paionate Asia）。第二届亚洲青年运动会组织委员会2012年3月21日下午在南京正式发布亚青会会徽和口号，此外，亚青官网也正式开通。
