I am delighted on behalf of the IAAF to offer best wishes and good fortune to all competitors, officials, media and spectators involved with the 19th IAAF World Half Marathon Championships in Nanning, China.With outstanding memories of the atmosphere and organisation of the Beijing Olympic Games still fresh in the memory, and in expectation of another warm welcome by the Chinese people, the world athletics family is greatly looking forward to its visit to Nanning, the capital of the Guangxi autonomous region in southern China.Known as the “Green City” because of its abundance of lush tropical foliage, Nanning which has nearly 2.5million urban residents and an overall population of over 6 million, is the latest Chinese city to become host to an IAAF World Athletics Series competition.Most recently China has succefully hosted editions of the World Junior Championships and World Race Walking Cup in Beijing, and under the umbrella of the IAAF World Race Walking Challenge the cities of Beijing, Wuxi, Shenzhen, Yangzhou, Cixi, and Kunshan have organised international events of the highest standard.Chinese female runners have had impreive succe on the world’s roads in the last couple of decades, and with respect to the World Half Marathon have won two titles, the first taken by Ren Xiujuan in 1996.With the marathon triumph of Xue Bai at the World Championships in Berlin and China’s overall team victory in the World Marathon Cup, it is certain that expectation concerning the World Half Marathon Championships in Nanning will have grown considerably.“I am very much looking forward to some exciting races on 16 October 2010, competitions which will involve many of the best runners in the world.”

Au nom de l'IAAF, j’ai le plaisir d’adreer les meilleurs vœux de réuite à tous ceuxqui seront impliqués dans les 19èmes Championnats du Monde de Semi Marathon qui se dérouleront à Nanning(Chine).Les Jeux Olympiques de Pékin, avec leur organisation magistrale et leur atmosphère extraordinaire, restent très présents dans les esprits;aui, la communauté de l’Athlétisme International se réjouit-elle à la perspective de l’accueil chaleureux que la population de Nanning leur réserve.Connue sous le nom de “Ville verte” en raison de la luxuriance de sa flore tropicale, la capitale de la région autonome du Guangxi, en Chine du Sud, compte près de 2,5 millions d’habitants tandis que l’agglomération regroupe plus de 6 millions.Nanning est la dernière des villes chinoises à accueillir une compétition de la Série Mondiale de l’Athlétisme.Plus récemment, la Chine avait organisé avec succès les éditions des Championnats du Monde Juniors ainsi que la Coupe du Monde de Marche à Pékin.Sous l'égide de l'IAAF, Pékin, Wuxi, Shenzhen, Yangzhou, Cixi et Kunshan ont, tour à tour, organisé des compétitions d’excellente facture dans le cadre du Challenge Mondial de Marche.Au cours des deux dernières décennies, les coureuses chinoises ont connu d’impreionnants succès lors des compétitions mondiales de courses sur route.Elles ont remporté deux titres mondiaux de semi marathon dont celui de Ren Xiujuan, en 1996.Avec le triomphe de Xue Bai, au marathon des Championnats du Monde de Berlin ainsi que la victoire par équipe de la Chine dans la Coupe du Monde de Marathon, il est évident que les espoirs concernant les Mondiaux de semi marathon à Nanning, iront grandiants.Je suis impatient d’admirer les courses palpitantes qui réuniront un grand nombre des meilleurs coureurs du monde, le 16 octobre 2010.A tous, je souhaite bonne chance.Lamine Diack Président de l’IAAF
