Environment Protecting

Good afternoon.It’s really my pleasure to sit here and share with you something about our environment.Do you know the story The Last Leaf by O.Henry? “When the last leaf falls, I will go and my life will have to end.”Of course, I am here not to talk about the story with you, but just imagine: if the last leaf in the world fell and the last trees were cut down, what would our life be like? I am sorry to give you such an unpleasant problem to think about, but this is exactly what we are supposed to think about.Maybe you’ll know something about the environment when you watch the news.Global climate is warming.Many icebergs have melted.The sea level has risen by over 10 cm since the end of last century.Many island countries are endangered.The summer has become hotter and the winter has become colder.Many ofthe people realize that they have to protect the environment.But do they really do that? I can still see pollution in the rivers, in the seas, and also in the air.I can still see the factories are discharging the sewage into the river, even though they knew that it is harmful;I can still see people are still wasting water every day, even though we are running out of freshwater resources;I can still see people cutting trees, even though we know that it causes more sandstorms;I can still see so many cars on the road;even though that will pollute the air with more automobile exhaust…

So whose problem is it? Is it my problem, or maybe it‟s your problem, or it may be the leaders „ or it‟s the problem of countries? So whose problem is it? The truth is: it‟s everyone‟s problem.But nothing is happening.Even though people are talking about the environmental problem all the time, Like “We must save water” or “We can‟t throw trash into our rivers and seas” – but nothing is changing!I wonder what the reason is.In my opinion what is important is environmental consciousne.On such a special day and such a special stage, I’d like to end my speech with a lyric: Heal the worldMake it a better placeFor you and for meAnd the entire human raceThere are people dyingIf you care enough for the livingMake it a better placeFor you and for me
