Mi speaker, my fellow colleagues, the members of parliament and opposition, ladies and gentlemen, Good morning. In this seion of debate, we are going to discu the resolution: wearing fur should be illegal. As the prime minister, I strongly favor the resolution and believe that wearing fur should be illegal. Before launching the debate, I’d like to interpret the resolution and make our definitions clear.Fur originally refers to the skin of an animal with fur on it.But in the motion,it’s one of the oldest forms of clothing such as a coat, wrap, or shawl that made from the fur of animals.People usually wear fur for luxury and warmth, or self-satisfaction.However,the acquisition of these feelings is at the cost of lives, ecology and morality. Thus, we think that laws should be made to prevent the production, sale and consumption of fur worldwide. My reasons of doing so are these: First of all, wearing fur can cause decrease or even the extinction of the species.Worldwide, it’s reported that about 50 million animals are killed for their fur every year, including dogs, foxes, mink, and seals. Some of us will remember the hard-hitting Lynx ad, photographed by David Bailey: “It takes up to 40 dumb animals to make a fur coat and just one to wear it”.Despite its ironic effect, we can also see a cruel and bloody reality: A fur is filled with 40 lives. What’s worse, a life can be produced in only one way and over a long period of time while it may be killed in various methods and anytime. If wearing fur is still legal, more fur animals will be killed. In a long run, they will be driven into extinction. When it comes to wild fur animals, fur trapping is constantly used to catch them. However, some unexpected animals may run into the pitfalls by chance and unfortunately lost their lives, including various endangered species. For example, the rare Swift Fox, now exists in really small numbers.Despite the fact that it is now illegal to hunt them intentionally, they are still at risk as non-target victims of traps set for fur species. So to keep the diversity of lives in the world, especially fur lives and endangered animals, wearing fur should be made illegal.Secondly, furs do harm to human health, not only for people who wear them but also for those that make them.As we all know, animal fur is mainly made up with protein, which is easily decomposed. In order to keep furs from rotting, the clever men use various kinds of chemicals such as alum, ammonia, formaldehyde and so on.If people wear such furs for a long time, these poisonous chemicals may enter their body and make them feel sick. Also, those people working in fur factories are at higher risk of problems like lung disease and even cancer.According to a study conducted by the New York State Department of Health ,more than half of testicular cancer victims were fur employees. As a result,we must consider the impact that fur-wearing has on the human health. If wearing fur is illegal, fewer and fewer people will buy them, neither will people produce them.As nothing speaks louder than laws, we think laws should be made at once to prevent the production, sale and consumption of fur.Thirdly, wearing fur can break the balance of nature.Viewed in a large perspective, the production of furs can bring a waste of resources.A study done at the University of Michigan showed that creating a fur garment takes approximately 20 times the energy it would to make a ordinary garment of the same size.Due to limited natural resources nowadays,we should try our best to save any resources. The ecology is a delicate entity whereby all elements live with each other in symbiotic manners. It is important to recognize the potential environmental results of a species decline or resources shortage.Any imbalance will cause negative influence throughout all species, like plants and animals. It is therefore ecologically neceary to acknowledge damage of wearing fur.In a word, wearing fur can lead to the lo of species, the threat to human health and the destruction of ecological environment.More importantly, fur should be for animals, not for human beings. If people try to break the rule, they will be punished by nature sooner or later. So, I would like to confirm my resolution again that wearing fur should be illegal.Thank you!
