Change the Unchangeable Good afternoon, ladies and gentlemen!

I’d like to start my speech by asking you a question.Have you ever felt miserable about your physical appearance, family background, or even disabilities? Obviously, these are all unchangeable.When faced with these adversities, some people complain all day and think their lives are ruined, while the truly strong-willed individuals bravely embrace the challenges and struggle to change the unchangeable.They become their own super heroes.One of these heroes is Stephen Hawking, who was diagnosed with a type of motor neurone disease in his college time.The doctor said he would lose all control of his muscles and live on for only three or four years.Most people would have lost all hope in life in this despairing situation, let alone do any research.Hawking was also desperate at first, but he soon pulled himself together to face the harsh reality, and to fight back.He devoted himself to theoretical physics and cosmology when he was confined to a wheelchair.His research made the greatest contribution to our understanding of space, time and the universe.Now even though he can only use his eyelids and computer to communicate with the audience, he is among the most inspirational speakers in the world.There is a girl in America whose story is as inspirational as Hawking’s.Her name is Elizabeth Murray, who was born to poor and drug-addicted parents.She became homele at 15, when her mother died of AIDS, and her father moved to a homele shelter.Murray had to beg for a living and live on the corners of streets.When other students were enjoying themselves in their cozy homes, she studied under tin roof, in a street corner or even in the coldne, believing that where there is a will, there is a way.She finished high school in only two years and won the New York Times scholarship to go to Harvard University.Yes, fate was unfair to Murray, unfair to Hawking.It may also be unfair to you, ladies and gentleman, maybe you are not good-looking, maybe you are not highly-educated, maybe you are not the rich second generation, but you are the very master of own destiny and you can become your own super hero if you try your best.Nothing is impoible as long as we don’t lose hope and faith, as long as we have the courage to fight against fate, as long as we believe we can make miracles happen.Hold on to your dreams and never give up, ladies and gentlemen!Whatever setbacks you may experience, don’t look back!Look forward!You can defeat fate and you can change the unchangeable.Thank you!
