1.A Rabbit and a Wolf
兔子和狼
A little rabbit is picking mushrooms in a forest.A wolf is coming.He is very hungry.“Oh, a little rabbit!This is my favourite food!”
一只小兔子正在森林里采蘑菇,一只狼来了,他很饿。“哦,一只小兔子!这是我最喜欢的食物!”
The rabbit sees the wolf, but she is not afraid.She pretends to be poisoned by the mushrooms.The wolf thinks, “If I eat her, I will be poisoned, too.” So he goes away.小兔子看见了狼,但是她并不害怕。她假装吃蘑菇中毒了。狼想到:“如果我吃了她,我也会中毒的。”所以他走开了。
Then the rabbit is very happy.She goes on picking the mushrooms.小兔子非常高兴,她继续去采蘑菇。

1.A Foolish Man

One day, he saw a beautiful bell.It was at the top of a door.“Oh, how nice!I will take it home.”he said to himself.He thought hard.Then he had a “good” idea.“Aha!I can plug my ears.I will not hear the ring.”
有一天,他看见一个漂亮的铃铛挂在一户人家的门上头。“啊,好漂亮!我要把它拿回家去。”他自言自语道。他使劲地想,然后想到了一个“好”主意。“哈!我把耳朵堵上,就听不到铃声了。”
He did so, but the bell rang.The owner opened the door and asked angrily, “What are you doing here?”

One day, he goes to the river as usual.Suddenly a fish comes out.He catches the fish.He is very happy.He forgets to put the fish in the basket.He dances and sings.He shouts, “I have a fish!I have a fish!” All his friends come to see him.一天,他像往常一样去了河边。突然一条鱼浮出了水面。他捉到了那条鱼。他非常开心。他忘记把鱼放到篮子里去了。他又唱又跳,叫道:“我捉到一条鱼!我捉到一条鱼!”他所有的朋友都过来看。
“Where is your fish? Let us have a look at it.” his friends say.“你的鱼在哪儿?让我们看一看。”他的朋友们说。
“It’s there, near the bank.” the cat answers.But he can’t find the fish.When he sings and dances, the fish jumps back into the river.“在那儿,河岸附近。”猫回答道。但是他找不到那条鱼。当他又唱又跳的时候,鱼跳回了河里。

One day, a farmer works in his fields.The wind blows hard.He feels very cold, so he goes home.一天,农夫去田地里干活。风很大,他感觉很冷,所以就回家了。
On his way home, he saw a frozen snake.He picked it up and put it in his chest.He tried to warm it.Some time late, the snake was warm and active.It bit the farmer in the chest.在路上,他看到一条冻僵的蛇,他把它捡起来,放进了自己的胸口,他想让蛇暖和暖和。过了一段时间,蛇暖和过来了,并且活动起来,它在农夫的胸口咬了一口。
The snake was poisonous.The farmer was dead.Before he died, the farmer said, “I’m so silly.I look at an enemy as a friend.”

7.The City Mouse and the Country Mouse

There are two mice.They are friends.One mouse lives in the country, and other lives in the city.有两只老鼠是朋友。一只老鼠住在农村,另外一只住在城市。
After several years the country mouse meets the city mouse.He says, “Come and see me at my house in the country.” So the city mouse goes.The city mouse says, “The food is not good.Your house is not good, either.Why do You live in a hold in the field? Come and live in the city with me.You can live in a nice stone house there.You can eat nice food.”
过了几年之后,农村老鼠遇见了城市老鼠。他说:“来看看我在乡下的房子吧。”于是城市老鼠就去了。城市老鼠说:“东西不好吃,你的房子也不好。你为什么住在田野的地洞里呢?跟我到城里去住吧。在那儿你可以住 漂亮的石头房子,吃很好的食物。”
So the country mouse goes to the house of the city mouse.It is a very good house.The food is really nice, too.But when they are eating, they hear a great noise.They city mouse cries, “Run!Run!The cat is coming!”
因此,农村老鼠就去了城市老鼠的家。房子很好,食物也确实很可口。但是正在吃饭的时候,他们听见很大的声音。城市老鼠叫道:“快跑!快跑!猫来了!”
After some time they come out.The country mouse says, “I do not like living in the city.I like living in my hole in the field.It is nicer to be poor and happy than to be rich and afraid.”
过了一段时间他们出来了。农村老鼠说:“我不喜欢 住在城市里,我喜欢住在我田野的洞里。贫穷而快乐比富有但担惊受怕要好的多。”

An old lady is very deaf.She thinks everything is too dear in the shop.One day, she wants to buy a hat.She goes into a shop and points to hat and asks.一位老太太耳聋了,她认为商店里的东西都太贵了。一天,她想买帽子。她走进一家商店,指着一顶帽子问道:
“How much is it?” “这个多少钱?”
“Seven dollars, Madam,” the salesgirl answers, “It is very cheap.” “七美元,夫人,”女店员说道:“这是很便宜的。”
The old lady says, “Seventeen dollars? It is too much.If it is fourteen dollars, I will buy it.老太太说:“十七美元?太贵了。如果是十四美元,我就买啦。”
“Not seventeen dollars, Madam,” the girl says, “but seven.” “不是十七美元,夫人,”女孩说道:“是七美元。”
“It is still too much,” replies the old lady, “If it is five dollars, I will buy it.” “还是太贵了,”老太太回答道,“如果是五美元,我就买啦。”
9.The Monkey
猴子
A monkey is hungry.He wants to look for something to eat.At this time, he sees many peaches on the trees.So he climbs the trees and picks up the peaches.一只猴子饿了。他想找些吃的。这时,他看到树上有很多桃子。所以他爬去摘桃子。
Suddenly he sees many bananas on other trees.He then jumps down and runs to the banana trees.Every banana is big and yellow.He is very happy.Then he sees many watermelons on the ground.He begins to pick up the watermelons.突然,他看到其它树上有许多香蕉。然后他就跳下来,向香蕉树跑去。每个香蕉又大又黄,他非常高兴。然后他看到地上长着许多西瓜,他又开始摘起西瓜来。
A hare comes up.The monkey sees the hare.Then he runs after it.一只野兔出现了。猴子看到了兔子,就追上去。
In the end, the monkey gets nothing.最后,猴子什么也没有得到。

It’s Sunday.There are many people in the bus.And an old man is looking here and there.He wants to find an empty seat.Then he finds one.He goes to it.A small bag is on the seat.And a young man is beside it.今天是周末,公共汽车上有许多人。一位老人站在车上到处看,他想要找到一个空的座位。后来他发现了一个,他走了过去。有一个小包在座位上,有一个年轻的男子坐在这个座位的旁边。
“Is this seat empty?” asks the old man.“这个座位有人吗?”老人问道。
“No, it’s for an old woman.She went to buy some bananas,” says the man.“Well, let me sit here, please, I’ll leave here when she comes back.”

The bus starts.“She hasn’t come, but her bag is here.Let me give her the bag.” Then the old man throws the bag out.公车开动了,“她还没回来,可是她的包还在这里,我把这包还给她吧。”说着老人就把包扔到车外。
The young man shouts, “Don’t throw it!It’s may bag!” 年轻男子喊道:“不要扔!那是我的包!”

He comes to a river.The water in the river is very deep and he can’t get acro it.He says to himself, “I can’t go to the rich man’s house today.” So he goes home.他来到一条河边。河里的水很深他过不去。他自言自语说:“我今天去不成富人的家了。”于是他回家了。
He has nothing to eat the day.He is very hungry, so he comes to the apples.这一天他什么都没吃,他很饿,所以他又找苹果去了。
Don’t throw good things away, you may be glad to have them sometimes.不要扔掉好的东西,你可能偶尔会用到它们。
12.Foolish Father and Son
愚蠢的父亲和儿子
Mr Smith and his son Jim rent a boat from Mr Green.They find a very good place and catch a lot of fish.Now it is late and they are going home.史密斯先生和他的儿子吉姆,从格林先生那里租了一条船。他们找到了一个非常好的地方并抓到了许多鱼。天色已经很晚了,他们要回家了。
Jim says, “I’ll come here again tomorrow.” 吉姆说:“我明天还要再来这里。”

The father laughs and says, “No, that’s foolish!Mr Green won’t give us the same boat next time.”

13.The Doorbell Rings

Mr King is very rich.He lives in a big house with his family.There is a swimming pool in front of the house and a beautiful garden behind the house.He often has a drink or reads some newspapers in the garden after dinner.One day he stays at home.He is reading a book.Then he hears someone ring the doorbell.He opens the door but there is nobody.He is a little angry.He thinks some naughty(顽皮的, 淘气的)boy did it.金先生是一个非常富有的人。他和他的家人住在一个大房子里。房子前面有一个游泳池,后面有一个漂亮的花园。饭后,他经常在公园里喝东西或看报纸。有一天,他呆在家里正在读一本书。他听到有人敲门,打开门却没有人。他有点生气了。他想可能是某个淘气的男孩子干的。
Just then he sees a policeman.So he asks the policeman.“Did you see a boy ring my doorbell and run away?”
正在这时他看到了一个警察。于是他问警察先生:“您看到一个小男孩按我的门铃又跑掉了吗?”
“A boy? No.but I saw two old man.They laughed while they ran away quickly.”
“一个小男孩?但是我看到的是两个老人。他们一边快速地跑开一边大笑着。”

Mr Smith goes home and puts on his good clothes.He goes back to the party.Everyone in the room stands up and smiles at him.They give him very good food to eat.史密斯先生回到家穿上了他漂亮的衣服,他返回宴会。屋里面的每个人都站起来向他微笑。他们给他非常好的食物享用。
Mr Smith takes off his coat, and puts it among the food and says, “Eat, coat!” 史密斯先生脱下他的衣服,把它放在食物中说道:“吃吧,衣服!” The other people asked: “What are you doing?” 其他人问道:“你在做什么?”
He answers: “I’m asking my coat to eat food.When I am wearing my old clothes, you don’t look at me.You don’t ask me to sit down.Now I’m in these clothes, and you give me very good food.Now I see, you give the food for my clothes not for me.”
他回答说:“我在请我的衣服吃东西。当我穿旧衣服时,你们都不看我,也没有请我坐下。现在我穿上了这些衣服,你们就给了我精美的食物。我明白了,你们是把食物给我的衣服吃而不是我。”
