Teaching plan for the UNIT 2 “The Olympic Games”

Teaching Contents:

Unit 2 Discovering useful words and expreions

Teaching objectives:

By the end of the seion, students will be better able to use these words and expreions to community with others in the daily life.This will be achieved by: a).students learnt to use words and expreions to do exercises b).students learnt to use words and expreions in the conversation c).students learnt the method of words formation.Teaching Aids: PPT, blackboard, and pictures.Teaching difficulties:(Anticipated difficulties)1.It might be hard for Ss to remember all the words and expreions.2.Ss might be easily confused by some words or expreions with similar meanings.Such as: as well 与as well as;take part in 与 join, join in , attend….3.It’s also difficult for them to use these words and expreions in their real life.Teaching procedures: Step1: Lead in(2 minutes)

1.Ask Ss to find the word or expreion for each of the following meanings from the warming up.E.g.To take part in a sports event(compete)

To join in(take part in)

…..Step2: Learning words and expreions of Warming-up.(17 minutes)

The teacher should take some creative methods to teach the words and expreions.Not only to teach Ss the basic meanings, but also to teach Ss how to use them in concrete context.Methods: 1.Using pictures to introduce the word then let Ss gue which word or expreion we are going to learn.Take “stand for” as an example:

The teacher presents two pictures on the PPT, one picture is a dragon, and the other is an emperor(皇帝), then let Ss find out the connection between these two pictures.It’s not difficult for the Ss to know the answer.(“龙代表皇帝.”)So the teacher succefully introduced “stand for” After that, the teacher can give more examples.2.From the angle of “word formation” to make Ss have a better understanding of the word.Take “homeland” as an example: Homeland=home + land

The teacher can give more examples like this and let Ss gue the meanings, such as “brainstorm”, “springboard”….By teaching Ss this method, it will be very useful for them to gue the meaning of a new word when they come acro some new words like these while reading.3.By teaching the differences and similarities between two(or more)words or expreions, Ss can know well about them and use properly in concrete context.Take “take part in” as an example: The teacher can teach this expreion aociated with other expreions having similar meaning, like “join in” “attend” And give examples to show how to use them.Step3 Learning words and expreions of Reading(20 minutes)

Ask Ss to re-reading the text to find out words and expreions which they tend to be difficult to understand, then the teacher give detailed interpretation.Step4 Exercises(4 minutes)Exercise1: Find the word or expreion for each of the following meanings on the ppt.E.g.: to allow to enter(a course or sports competition)(admit)….Exercise2:.Choose the word or phrase that means almost the same as the word in italics.(On Page 12)…

Exercise3: Complete the paage with the words below in their proper forms.(On Page 12)

Step5 Homework(2 minutes)Choose 5 to 8 words or expreions that we have learnt today to create a short paragraph.Ps: 1.you can write it according to the exercise3 on Page12.2.about 100 words.The layout of the blackboard 1.in ancient times 2.stand for 3.take part in/ join in / attend 4.compete/ competitors/ competition/ competitive 5.silver medal/ copper(bronze)medal 6.homeland= home+land
