The fox and crow
One day a crow stood on a branch near his nest and felt very happy with the
meat in his mouth. At that time, a fox saw the crow with the meat, so he swallowed
and eagerly thought of a plan to get the meat. However, whatever the fox said to
the crow, the crow just kept silent. Until the fox thought highly of the crow’s
beautiful voice, the crow felt flattered and opened his mouth to sing. As soon as
the meat fell down to the ground, the fox took the meat and went into his hole.

The rabbit went to the foxs house. He looked in through the window and saw the fox lying in bed with his eyes closed. He thought, ”Is the fox really dead or is he pretending to be dead? If hes not dead, hell catch me when I go near him.“ so he said, ”The wolf says that the fox is dead. But he doesnt look like a dead fox. The mouth of a dead fox is always open.“ When the fox heard this, he thought, ”Ill show him that Im dead.“ So he opened his mouth.

After the stealing of fire,Zeus became increasingly unkind to men.One day he
ordered his son Hephaestus to build an image of a beautiful maiden out of clay.He then asked the gods and goddesses to award her with different kinds of gifts.A charming young lady, she was the first woman that ever lived.Zeus called her Pandora.Because she had received from each of the gods and goddesses a gift. The gift was harmful to men.
Zeus decided to send her down to men as a present. So Hermes them essenger brought her to Epimetheus, brother of Prometheus. The greatness of her beauty touched the hearts of all who looked upon her, and Epimetheus happily received her into his house. He had quite forgotten Pometheus warning: never to accept anything from Zeus.
When he was busy with teaching men the art of living, Prometheus had left a bigcask in the care of Epimetheus. He had warned his brother not to open the lid. Pandora was a curious woman. She had been feeling very disappointed that her husband did not allow her to take a look at the contents of the cask. One day, when Epimetheus was out, she lifted the lid and out it came unrest and war, Plague and sickness, theft and violence, grief, sorrow, and all the other evils. The human world was hence to experience these evils. Only hope stayed within the mouth of the jar and never flew out. So men always have hope within their hearts.
Primitive peoples believe that hair, nail clippings, and lost teeth remain magically linked to the owner even after they have been disconnected from his body. As any voodoo artist will tell you, if you want to grind someone into powder, you dont need to touch him at all. Its quite enough to stamp on a missing molar and let ”contagious magic“ do the rest. This is why peoples all over the world traditionally hide lost body parts, lest they fall into the wrong hands.
American childrens ritual of hiding lost teeth under their pillows probably derives distantly from this practice. But there is an obvious difference, for when Suzie conceals her baby milk-tooth, she fully expects it to be found, and by a good magician, not an evil one. Moreover, she expects to be paid for having surrendered it, and at the going rate. Nothing mare clearly suggests the blithe commercial gusto of our culture than this transformation of a fearful superstition into a cheery business transaction.
Because American children expect fair exchange for their lost teeth, it is likely that the tooth fairy ritual derives more immediately from the European, and particularly German, tradition of placing a lost tooth in a mouse or a rat hole. The folk belief governing this practice is that when a new tooth grows in, it will possess the dental qualities, not of the original, lost tooth, but of whatever creature finds it, so the creatures of choice would be those world-class champers, the rodents.
Thus the optimistic, ”fair exchange“ principle most likely started in Germany and was brought here by German immigrants. It was only left to America to replace the beneficent “tooth rat” with the more agreeable fairy and to replace the traditional hope of hard molars with our more characteristic hope of hard cash.

It said to a turtle that lived in the East Sea, ”I am so happy! When I go out, I jump about on the railing beside the mouth of the well. When I come home, I rest in the holes on the broken wall of the well. If I jump into the water, it comes up to my armpits and holds up my cheeks. If I walk in the mud, it covers up my feet. I look around at the wriggly worms, crabs and tadpoles, and none of them can compare with me. Moreover, I am lord of this trough of water and I stand up tall in this shallow well. My happiness is full. My dear sir, why dont you come often and look around my place?“
Before the turtle from the East Sea could get its left foot in the well, its right knee got stuck. It hesitated and retreated. The turtle told the frog about the East Sea. ”Even a distance of a thousand li cannot give you an idea of the seas width; even a height of a thousand ren cannot give you an idea of its depth. In the time of King Yu of the Xia dynasty, there were floods nine years out of ten, but the waters in the sea did not increase. ln the time of King Tang of the Shang dynasty there were droughts seven years out of eight, but the waters in the sea did not decrease. The sea does not change along with the passage of time and its level does not rise or fall according to the amount of rain that falls.
The greatest happiness is to live in the East Sea.“
After listening to these words, the frog of the shallow well was shocked into realization of his own insignificance and became very ill at ease.
One cold night the king called Nasreddin to him and said, ”If youre able to spend this night in the courtyard with only your shirt on, I will give you one hundred gold coins!“
In the courtyard Nasreddin saw a stone mill. He began to push it around, faster and faster. When dawn came, he was sweating all over himself.
The king got up and was surprised to see Nasreddin in high sprits. The king hated to lose one hundred gold coins, so he asked, ”Was there a moon last night?“
”Yes.“
”Then our bargain is off,“ said the king. ”If there was a moon, it was warm. In that case even I could have spent the night outside!“
A few months later, the king and his men went hunting. It was hot summer and at the edge of the desert it was like a furnace. The king and his men were dying of thirst.
They turned toward Nasreddins house in the hope of getting some water. Nasreddin was sitting in the edge of his well when he heard the voice of the king, ”Nasreddin, bring some fresh water! Be quick and serve us!“
”Please make yourself at home,“ said Nasreddin.
”Where is the water?“ cried the king.
”Right here, Your Majesty, you see?“ Nasreddin pointed to the well.
”You only show me the water but dont give me a drink!“ fumed the king.
”Your Majesty, if the rays of the moon can warm a person, the sight of water can satisfy his thirst."
