other和another辨析

other和another它们都有名词和形容词的作用, 在句中都可作主语、宾语和定语。other 的复数是others, 所有格是other's或others' , 它可以与定冠词the连用，即the other,指两个中的“另一个”。还可以接复数名词，表示“其余的……”；the others是指一定范围内的“其余的”；others是泛指“其他的（人或物）”，并没有一定的范围限制。other既可修饰单数名词，也可修饰复数名词。another是指三个或三个以上中的任何一个，由an和other合并而成的，可代替或修饰单数可数名词，也可修饰复数名词，且不与冠词连用。

1、表示两件东西或两个人中的“一个……另一个……”这一意思时，用one…the other…。

那儿有二本英语书，一本是Lily的，另一本是Kate的。

2、表示不定数目中的“一个”与“另一个”，用“one… another …”。如图所示：

another 表达的意思常有：（1）= a different one（2）= one more

（3）= also one 等。故 one 和another 对应使用的情形很多：

（1）To know is one thing ,to practise is another.知道是一件事，练习是另一件事。

(2)If you don't like this one ,try another.如果你不喜欢这个，试一试另一个。

(3)If I am a fool, you are another.如果我是一个傻子，你是另一个。

(4)This coat is a little too big ,Show me another.这件外套有点太大，给我看另一件。

3、强调确定数目中的“一个”与“其余的”，用one … the

五个钢笔中，一个是红色的，其余的是绿色的。

注：(1)以上三个one … another并没有固定的数目，而且 one … the other 和 one … the others,其数目是已经固定、明确的。

(2)要表达三个人或物时可说：one…another/a second…the other ；要表达四个人或物时，可说：one…another…a third…the other，往下类推。

例如：（1）She sent me three flowers, one was red, another(was)blue, and the other(was)white。

她寄给我三支花，一支是红色的，一支是蓝色的，另一支是白色的。

（2）There are four cars in the yard；one is red, a

second(another)is yellow ,a third is green ,and the other is black。

在院中有四辆小汽车，一辆是红色的，一辆是黄色的，一辆是绿色的，另一辆是黑色的。

4、表示许多人或物中的“一部分”和“另一部分（并非全部）”，用some…others/some…。这一用法的条件是无确定数目。

5、表示许多人或物中的“一部分”“其余的全部分”，用some…the others/the rest。这一用法的条件是有确定数目。

说明：other(1)常见固定词组：

the other day 几天前

every other day 每隔一天

eachother 互相（常指两者，而三者或以上常用：one another)one after the other(= one after another)一个接一个地、接连地。

（2）有时在比较结构中，要用other限定比较对象，使意义更为明显。如：

He is taller than any other boy in his cla.他比他班上任何一个男孩高。

注意：在不同范围内比较就不要加other.例如：

Shanghai is bigger than any city in Jiangsu.上海比江苏的任何城市大。

(3)某人或某物在与同类几人或几事物进行比较时，应用：

“比较级 + than + any + other+ 单数名词或any of the other + 复数名词”形式。

如：He is taller than any other boy /any of the other boys in his cla.他比他班上任何一个男孩高。
