In the story The Scarlet Ibis, Brother tried to teach Doodle to walk in order not to make him embarraed.He finally succeeded.Later, he wanted more and asked doodle to learn to swim, to run and to do everything that normal kids could do.He pushed too hard and finally caused Doodle’s death.So it comes to the question: is it is the brother’s fault that caused the sad ending and do the motives matter in the end though you are doing something good? It looks conflicting in the story.Brother taught Doodle to walk with selfish motivation, but he succeeded and everyone was happy.Later, he tried to teach Doodle more with the motivation to make Doodle a normal kid.But he failed and Doodle died.The story did not give an exact answer.But it suggested that the motives do not matter so much to the result as we always regarded.There are good motivations driving us to do good things.However, the motivation from desire and interests are from human nature and are always strong.It is a respectful but not realistic idea to request people just to do things completely for unselfish motivation.When someone get a motivation to do something, it might be of expectation of the result.Everyone would do things mostly for himself, but the difference is on if he could also consider the influence on others.A billionaire in China called Chen Guangbiao was criticized because his ceremony of donating money was more likely to be a parade for showing off his money.However, his

donation did help a lot of people and no one’s benefit was influenced.That’s enough.On the other hand, the motivation really effects something.In the story, the brother cared more about benefits to himself than to Doodle.That might not cause some great differences, but it would influence the attitude while dealing with the iue.While teaching Doodle to walk, it did not show any obvious effect.But during Doodle’s training for the second time, Doodle died by accident which was resulted to his pushing too hard.Why he add so much preure on Doodle, and why he was carele of Doodle’s feeling? It might be attributed to his motivation.He cared more about benefits to himself than to Doodle.So we can see that different motivation can cause a different attitude, which will cause different behavior and eventually influence the ending.In the last part of the story, the brother ran alone and left Doodle behind.It might be harmful to Doodle.That was not peculiar.We are always cruel just to the people we love most.Why is this true?

I think the first reason is that the people we love most are always the people that love us and the people who can bear us.When we are angry or anxious, we need to release.But losing temper to someone else would cause trouble.So we release our bad emotion on friends and parents as we know that they would bear that.However, it was improper to abuse their love like that.The second reason can be, when we are so familiar with someone, we might lose interests in them and become impatient with them.When we are used to being cared for by someone, sometimes we will even feel troublesome of being cared because being cared also mean that we are bonded.
