Pleasure

----About Wordsworth and His Poem

When we hear a real poem, it can help us understand the power and long life of great poetry.Poetry is different from the novel, newspaper;it is more intense than other writing, which more intense with feeling. And it is the true language of emotion. At such time, I might wish I was a poet, but not.So I like read the poetry, especially the “I wandered lonely as a cloud”, for it is a pleasure to listen to, and it sounds naturally to the ear.William Wordsworth, the representative of the early romanticism, He was born in 1770 and in a lawyer’s family. He studied at Cambridge from 1787 to 1791.At that time, he was a warm supporter of the French revolution. In 1797, he made friends with Coleridge and they write the “The Rime of the Ancient Mariner”.Late, Wordsworth’s attitude to the revolution changed and he gave up his former political opinion, and he lived in the Lake Pistrict. He and Colerige, southey were called Lake Poet.Because they lived in the same place and shared the similar view of literary and social in their work. And, he was made Poet Laureate in 1843, and died in 1850.Such as “I wandered lonely as a cloud”, is the major works Wordsworth. The poem describes the poet’s own experience in his trip.In the poem, Wordsworth sings the harmony between nature and the poet himself. And it is written in iambic tetrameter and the rhyme of “ababcc” in each stanza.“For oft, when on my couch I lie / In vacant or in pensive mood, / They flash upon that inward eye/ Which is the bli of solitude;/And then my heart with pleasure fills / And dances with the daffodils.”It is triggered the memories of poet.Everything is beautiful. His heart fills with pleasure. The poet wandered lonely as a cloud on high vales and hills.Suddenly saw the golden daffodils.Beside the lake, the daffodils seemly are dancing in the breeze.“Continuous as the stars that shine / And twinkle on the Milky Way, / They stretched in never-ending line / Along the margin of a bay: / Ten thousand saw I at a glance / Toing their heads in sprightly dance.” In this stanza, the poet enjoys the

music of wind and dance of the daffodils. He saw the daffodils with the new sight. He tries to communicate with the beautiful scenery and feels back to nature.“What wealth the show to me had brought./ the waves beside them danced, but they / Out-did the sparkling waves in glee: / A poet could not but be gay /In such a jocund company: / I gazed-and gazed-but little thought” Then, the poet expreed his delight in the sun, the hills, the flowers, the wind, and the fragrance, in the innocence of everything. He achieves great succe in his pleasure and the nature with enthusiasm to paint vivid picture of daffodils. In a word, it has the beauty of diction, the beauty of rhythm and beauty of imagery. And he remained a poet in his painting and a painter in his poetry.Beside, Wordsworth based his own poetical ways on the premise that the good poetry is the unconscious overflow of strong feeling. He made his individual emotion, pleasure, and feeling, as the base in the creation and appreciates of poetry.
